Special to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise
We seem to have had a spate of letters on the previous editor’s policy. Perhaps the editorial policy should be to avoid having long drawn out letter chains, rather than a ban on any particular subject. This is L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise, and Neil was an adamant atheist. The theme here is libertarianism, which is a political philosophy and methodology. With that in mind, the editor would be glad to entertain an article on, say, whether one can derive libertarianism from the New Testament, or articles on christian libertarian theorists.
I will note that Samuel Edward Konkin (SEKIII) was, as I put it many years ago, a devout atheist. None the less, he appreciated Christian libertarianism, especially the works and thoughts of C.S. Lewis. Indeed, Sam was one of the few people who was a member of both the East Coast and the West Coast C.S. Lewis Societies. And I will recommend Lewis to both the religious and non-religious. Sam said that Lewis is the Christian the atheists must answer. Perhaps a review of Lewis’ Narnia series, or Screwtape Letters (complete with Screwtape Proposes a Toast, of course)? But remember that the audience here is more than Christians. Atheists, certainly. Maybe there’s a Buddhist or three, who knows?
I think there is room for discussion. But not for boring the hell out of our readers. (OK, maybe that’s the wrong metaphor. You know what I mean.)
