WE'VE GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO WITH 'THE CHILDREN'

<<
When he was campaigning for the presidency, Bush often spoke of his commitment toward investing in the future of the nation's young people.

As he settles into the Oval Office, a group of teens featured in this week's Parade magazine asked Bush how he planned to make good on those promises. In a special feature, teenagers from across the nation told President Bush specifically what they wanted his administration to do for them, and how he could help their families, schools and communities. [...]

Here is a sampling of their questions for President Bush:

"What will your administration do to honor good teachers?"
[Privatize education? -- ed.]

"What will you do to curb drug use among teenagers?"
['De-romanticize' (i.e. de-regulate) drug use? -- ed.]

"What will you do to try and stop the killing in the Middle East?"
[Stop American imperialism? -- ed.]

"Everyone, no matter how much money they have, should be able to go to college. What will you do to make sure that this happens?"
[Nothing. Your premise is flawed; ask your grandfather. -- ed.]

"What will you do to help Americans of different races and cultures live together in harmony?"
[De-federalize race relations? -- ed.]

"What will you do to help teen mothers stay in school and have child care available?"
[De-federalize education, welfare, and child care? -- ed.]

"What will you do to better the condition of the inner city and provide better jobs for the people who live there?"
[De-federalize aid to cities? -- ed.]

"What will the government do to help the farmers in America?"
[De-federalize aid to farmers? -- ed.]
