WE'VE GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO WITH 'THE CHILDREN'

When he was campaigning for the presidency, Bush often spoke of his
commitment toward investing in the future of the nation's young
people.
As he settles into the Oval Office, a group of teens featured in this week's Parade magazine asked Bush how he planned to make good on those promises. In a special feature, teenagers from across the nation told President Bush specifically what they wanted his administration to do for them, and how he could help their families, schools and communities. Here is a sampling of their questions for President Bush:
"What will your administration do to honor good teachers?"
[Privatize education? -- ed.]
"What will you do to curb drug use among teenagers?"
['De-romanticize' (i.e. de-regulate) drug use? -- ed.]
"What will you do to try and stop the killing in the Middle East?"
[Stop American imperialism? -- ed.]
"Everyone, no matter how much money they have, should be able to go
to college. What will you do to make sure that this happens?"
[Nothing. Your premise is flawed; ask your grandfather. -- ed.]
"What will you do to help Americans of different races and cultures
live together in harmony?"
[De-federalize race relations? -- ed.]
"What will you do to help teen mothers stay in school and have child
care available?"
[De-federalize education, welfare, and child care? -- ed.]
"What will you do to better the condition of the inner city and
provide better jobs for the people who live there?"
[De-federalize aid to cities? -- ed.]
"What will the government do to help the farmers in America?"
[De-federalize aid to farmers? -- ed.]
