The colonists, on hearing the Loyalists request surrender terms, offered them "Tarleton's Quarter", a reference to the brutal suppression by the hated Banastre Tarleton during his "Carolina Campaign", especially at the "Battle of the Waxhaws" [May 29,1780], where he refused "quarter" to surrendering troops of the Third Virginia Continentals under Col. Abraham Buford. The modern corollary, if we can even still imagine one in this "Nation of Cowards", would be "Reno's Quarter", I suppose. AND THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE ... I didn't realize that the "carry" issue still had legs in New Jack City. Given the advanced age of the "Sullivan Act" mentality, I took it as a given that denizens of The Big Rotten Apple had long since traded their birthright for the "avantages" of "living" in Gothamorrah. Then someone brought to my attention a story in New York Newsday's
online edition that, while license applications are down in most
categories, the patronage process is still quite active.

Cleared to Carry in City: Permit totals drop, but not for notables
It's important to remember -- especially whenever we are told that this politician or that is the "lesser of two evils", and therefore somehow deserving of our support -- that gun controllers truly believe that they are better than we, and that they are not subject to the same restricitons they would impose on us. This amounts to a "royalty syndrome"; it is evil of the highest order; and it should be stamped out with whatever force is necessary. As a former member of the law enforcement establishment, it pains me -- only slightly -- to point out that nowhere is this attitude more prevalent than among those allegedly hired "to protect and serve".
Now everybody knows that the number of "legal" guns bears no correlation to the "crime rate", but that doesn't stop the prohibitionists from trying.
That's quite an admission, though it means absolutely nothing. What matters is that residents of New York live in a city where bad laws are selectively enforced; where rights are subordinated to "security"; where the "elite" are openly contemptuous of the "masses"; and where it's seriously considered better for a woman to be raped, strangled with her own panty-hose, and left lying in an alley dead than for her to carry a sub-nosed .357 in her purse. Thank goodness the rest of the country isn't headed that way, hunh?
