Re: "The Marriage Strike", by Wendy McElroy

A very good article, Wendy, but you forgot the most recent and most horrifying reason why men, particularly gun-owning men, are not entering marriage and are seriously considering dropping cohabitation in favor of strictly business transactions: The Lautenberg Amendment.

How could you forget that one, considering the major role it played in Texas not too long ago? A woman files for divorce, it is discovered that the man has a gun collection, man goes to jail. Never mind that the man may never have so much as raised his voice to the woman, all it takes is divorce papers and a pro forma court order and -- BANG -- instant felon. And thanks to the unconstitutional felon-in-possession rules created by an out-of-control agency of the HeimatlandSicherheitsamt, a divorce can and often does mean the permanent loss of full citizenship.

Some of us are lucky enough to have relationships with women who are as big on guns and self-defense as we are, but the sad truth of the matter is that they are still the exception rather than the rule. The feminist agenda at work. Things are changing, slowly. Slow enough that I don't expect to see improvement any time soon.
