Editorial Notes
Ladies and gentlemen, ah thank you very much.
For all those submissions for TLE, that is. Feast or Famine as
somebody used to say. Last issue I didn't have enough, this issue
I've got more than enough but DON'T STOP SENDING THEM! Yes sir,
it is better to have too many than not enough, yes indeed, oh yeah.
Many of those submissions that aren't in this issue will surely
show up next issue, or the one after that. But DON'T STOP SENDING
THEM! Or have I already said that?
So, once again, a big THANK YOU to all of you out there in reader-
land for helping me out, helping us ALL out. I've selected a nice
... er ... selection of articles from the serious to the highly
amusing and vastly entertaining.
Hoping you are the same, I remain,
Ken Holder
The Acting Mr. Ed.
Disarray
by Todd Mahle
In amazement I read the plea for written material from The Libertarian
Enterprise. I was quite shocked at first. Is everything in disarray?
What has happened within the freedom movement that mere mortals such as
myself are being encouraged to contribute? What is happening at the
top? Where are the manipulators of freedoms message? I was quite
content to take my marching orders every week and perform my duties to
the best of my abilities. Now suddenly my opinions were ripped from my
grasp. It seemed my very being would collapse from lack of substance.

A Whore Is Busted
by William Stone, III
Anyone regular reader of this column knows that I'm no great fan of
Rush Limbaugh. At one time, I was a fan -- back when I was
transitioning away from being a communist actor. He was the guiding
light in my journey from communist to conservative. Indeed, I would
not be a Zero Aggression Principle philosopher today had he not shown
himself to be nothing more than an intellectual whore for the Republican Party.

Libertarian Musings
by Russell D. Longcore
I'm writing an article today because the esteemed editor of The
Libertarian Enterprise asked readers to do so. I am an amateur,
having only had articles published on rare occasion in other
publications.

Capital Punishment and Texas
by Kathryn A. Graham
Interestingly enough, I had never been opposed to capital punishment,
or at least, not in theory. Yes, I'm a Libertarian, and most
Libertarians I have met are opposed to such taking of life, but I'd
always reasoned that the person being executed had most definitely
initiated the force by committing a capital crime in the first place.
In addition, I felt (and, in some ways, still do feel) that keeping a
person in a cage for life was cruel and unusual punishment far beyond execution.

I forgive you, Rush
by Anthony Gregory
It's tough times for Rush Limbaugh. The conservative talk legend has a
couple of scandals on his hands. First he shoots his mouth off about
so-called reverse discrimination in the NFL, picking the terrible example
of quarterback Donovan McNabb, who, contrary to Rush's assertions, is a
damn good player who has deserved all the credit he has ever received for
his athleticism. And now Rush is being investigated for illegally
purchasing OxyContin, a highly powerful prescription opiate, to which, if
the allegations are true, he has developed a nasty addiction.

In Re CAPPS II
by Francis A. Ney, Jr.
I write to express my opposition to the testing and possible
implementation of the Computer Assisted Passenger Pre-Screening System
(CAPPS II). As described in your department's Aug. 1, 2003 Federal
Register notice, 68 Fed. Reg. 45,265, CAPPS II will violate the
privacy and civil liberties of myself and every other air traveler and
should be withdrawn. I fully expect that by submitting this comment I
will be flagged as a "danger to flight safety" on the current
so-called "No Fly List" and on CAPPS II once established.

Lights Out--No, Wait! Keep Them On!
by Bob Wallace
Yes, it's true. I was once a little kid, in body and mind. Now, I'm
physically an adult but inwardly, like many a child, still have the urge to
smack irritating people in the keester with a projectile, preferably from a
slingshot. A stinging pebble for the averge jerk, but for politicians and
busybodies who can't keep their noses out of other people's business, an
80-mph cue ball.

Families Pay Price for Government Spending
by Wendy McElroy
The modern two-income family is no better off than the one-income family
from decades ago. Indeed, family finances are edging ever closer to
disaster. So say Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi present in their
controversial book "The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers Are Going
Broke." But they omit a major reason why families are struggling: the
increased size of government and governmental spending.
