EDITORIAL MATTERS:

This was a bad week, friends. TLE's web hosting servicer—I won't say it's run by a bunch of idiots—but the web hosting service managed to loose all of our mail for two or three days. So if anyone sent me a great article and it's not in this issue, it's not here on account of I never got it. So please send it again.

"But other than that, how did you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

The fate of this initiative has yet to be seen. Meanwhile, state governments are also taking up the issue.

Temporary Worker, Permanent Tourist
by Joel Simon
Sometimes, it seems, the worst disasters turn out to be blessings after all. A prolonged, expensive disaster in my life may have blown down one of the walls of a trap I had thought inescapable.

Parental Rights and the Pledge
by Wendy McElroy
Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow stirred a furor in late March when it went before the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of the words "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. But the conflict has raised an entirely different question: Does a parent's custody status determine if he or she has standing in a court of law concerning their child's education, medical care, or other related issues of well-being?
