Thank You Plug About three- four years ago I began writing to TLE rgarding the insane murder rate in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. At first i did this to compare the Murder rate in Juarez to that of its sister City El Paso, Texas, across the Rio Grande. The point of these comparisons was to show that gun control doesn't work.`Texas law is a hell of a lot more permissive on buying guns than Mexico's yet Juarez's murder rate was at this time insanely and absurdly higher than El Paso's. Therefor, stricter gun control laws don't work. Then, as Mexico's government tried to end the violence by the cartels and their siccarios by sending in federales and soldiers it became obvious that these law enforcers were as big, if not a bigger, part of the problem as they robbed, raped and murdered their way through J-Town. Many of them were in the pockets of the criminals they were supposed to stop to boot. I passed the information on as to what they were doing to the readers of TLE as a cautionary of where relying excessively on the government to defend your lives, liberty, families, and property will get you, especially if you let the government get strong enough to block you from defending yourself. Then thanks to L. Neil Smith I found out about "Operation Gunwalker", more correctly known as Operation Fast and Furious. I researched it and discovered the role BATFE had in arming the cartels and their murderers. I got furious real fast. I found out how malicious or, even worse, how incompetent and negligent in their duties an entire slew of BATFE supervisors and Federal Prosecutors were indevising and implementing this plan and how negligent Attorney General Eric Holder was in supervising this crew. Larry Correia's columns were among the first regularly reporting on OFF and a major source of information when I wrote most of my submissions to TLE. I hereby acknowledge my reliance on his work and express my gratitude. He is one of many whose work I relied on to provide me with facts about Operation Fast and Furious and if this had been formal academic work I would have footnotes galore followed by his name, an article title and date. In partial repayment of this debt, and with our publisher's generous permission, I would like to plug his work as a writer of science fantasy adventure novels published by Baen. Our Esteemed Publisher, Mr. Correia, and many others who write in defense of liberty are authors of other works and I would like to plug them all. Was that worth reading? What's all this about needs? The part of the recent so-called "dialog" on guns has struck me lately—the one where the gun prohibitionist asks me, "Do you really need a mega-blaster capable of killing a gazillion people?" This rhetorical strike is supposed to leave me senseless and bleeding on the debate floor, I suppose. Of course some people respond by trying to say why they need such a thing—thus completely falling for the ploy being used by the prohibitionist. "There might be 5 house invaders," or something lame like that. Dumb! What we should be responding with is something more like this: "Last time I had someone other than myself deciding what I needed, was when I was 12 years old or so. Of course among adults, what a person needs is determined by himself, not someone else. I am not your child, you are not my Mommy, so you don't get to decide what I do and don't need. Those criminals in Congress are not my Mommies and Daddies either. They don't get to decide. It's my business what I need, so shut your pie hole about "needs". If you believe you can impose on me what you think I need rather than what I think I need, I will keep your actions in mind when the 2nd American Revolution turns hot. I may show up at your door to decide what you need. Do you need a pantry full of food? I might decide you don't really need that. Who knows, I might decide you don't even need your home or your life. It's a dangerous road to go down, thinking you can determine someone else's needs. It might come back and bite you in the ass some day." Such a response might be countered with, "Look, this gun nut is nothing but a barbarian!" That's OK. Just point out that it is dangerous to fuck with barbarians. The smart move is not to start with that in the first place. The prohibitionist won't see the light, but a few onlookers might get the point.
