Let's start this off with a workplace gun rights story, shall we? Of course, NBC won't take the side of the gun owners. Noooo. Link. Their take is that it is dangerous even to allow guns to be on premises IN YOUR LOCKED CAR. In more than half the states, an employer is legally required to allow employees to keep their guns in their cars. Of COURSE this is supposed to lead to workplace violence, and serves no purpose. That is not, of course, the truth. Link. 11 stories to disprove this idea, with links included. No matter what Victim Disarmament supporters say, a good person on site with a gun reduces deaths LONG before the cops can get there.

As we approach the holidays, it is a good time to take a look at ourselves, to examine our motives and the principles on which we base our decisions.
My father's favorite saying was about the man who complained he had no shoes, until he met the man who had no feet.
Properly understood, that would lead one to appreciate what they had and, probably, to sympathize with the person who had less. But, Dad would go on to say that unless you had chopped off the other guy's feet yourself, you were not responsible for him in any way.

A good friend of mine wrote the following. I have decided that it is good enough to include verbatim.

The soldier who was arrested for legally carrying an AR 15 has had his case dismissed in Texas. Imagine that, beating the rap for not committing a crime. Wonder if LOLiPs involved (including arresting officer) have unknotted their knickers yet?
Apparently an appellate court ruled That Maryland's may issue law is unconstitutional, that shall issue should take its place. Also apparently the Supreme Court refused to hear Maryland's appeal. This is a win for pro gun force, but it restricts the victory to the jurisdiction of the lower court in question. It also create a precedent for imposing shall issue and constitutional carry as the law of the land. Call it a flawed victory for supporters of RKBA,
These are small underreported victories for supporters of the right to keep and bear arms. Of course, they are underreported because the establishment wants them underreported. have fun looking up the cases. Maybe you can find more examples of small victories.
Any one familiar with the War of Secession will remember that while the Rebs won most of the famous battles, the Damnyankees picked up a bunch of little, cheap victories. One day everyone woke up and Robert E. Lee was making a fighting retreat to Richmond because these little losses left the CSA too weak to support his Army of North Virginia.
This is an oversimplification, of course, but it is a strategy we can use to destroy the antigun push we are currently experiencing.

I can hear the outraged squeals of the anti-gun crowd now!! Mwahahahahaha! Link. Finally, some common sense has broken out, at least in Oregon. Oregon has an intelligent law regarding CCW holders. Not that I approve of the concept of licenses in the first place, because if a right is licensed, it is not a right but a privilege.

School board chairman Marshall Porter said, "The current law in Oregon allows for anyone to concealed carry on school grounds. To exclude our staff seems like they're being punished. They should have a right to protect themselves if they choose."

Oregon law would allow ME to carry on campus as a visitor, but school policy prohibited teachers from doing the same. Now, teachers can carry too.

Porter said he voted in the majority because he has kids in these schools and if "something was to happen, and there's a chance that a teacher might be able to protect them, I'm fine with that."

As I said, an outbreak of common sense has broken out.

Interpol, the nearly powerless international police force, has never been noted for it's friendly stance towards an armed populace. But recently, things have changed a bit, possibly because an American is the secretary general of Interpol is an American. Link.

Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said today the U.S. and the rest of the democratic world is at a security crossroads in the wake of last month's deadly al-Shabab attack at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya—and suggested an answer could be in arming civilians.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Noble said there are really only two choices for protecting open societies from attacks like the one on Westgate mall where so-called "soft targets" are hit: either create secure perimeters around the locations or allow civilians to carry their own guns to protect themselves.

"Societies have to think about how they're going to approach the problem," Noble said. "One is to say we want an armed citizenry; you can see the reason for that. Another is to say the enclaves are so secure that in order to get into the soft target you're going to have to pass through extraordinary security."

In his opinion, the Nairobi Mall attack signals a change in terrorism's operating methods. Instead of primarily attacking things like the Pentagon and government offices, the terrorists are going after "Soft targets", places with lots of civilian targets and no real security. And unless we make them into "secure enclaves" with police at every entry, security searches and metal detectors, governments need to think about an armed citizenry.

"Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly?" Noble said, referring to states with pro-gun traditions. "What I'm saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, 'Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?' This is something that has to be discussed."

"For me it's a profound question," he continued. "People are quick to say 'gun control, people shouldn't be armed,' etc., etc. I think they have to ask themselves: 'Where would you have wanted to be? In a city where there was gun control and no citizens armed if you're in a Westgate mall, or in a place like Denver or Texas?'"

Of course, those of us in the know DO know not to consider Denver a good example, but perhaps Colorado Springs, or maybe Fort Collins would work. Better choice would be Wyoming, Montana, or even Vermont. The entire concept of "secure enclaves" in which to shop sounds far too sci-fi for the real world. Who the hell would bother shopping somewhere you have to go through a metal detector and security checkpoints to shop? I wouldn't.

Sanford, Florida has decided to prohibit Neighborhood Watch members from carrying the firearms they are licensed to carry, and are free to carry on the streets of Florida. Link. want to bet that they either A) run out of volunteers or B) have volunteers saying "Fuck you! If I'm watching for crime, I'm going to carry anyway, in order that I do not wind up a statistic." In addition, they HAVE placed a rule that prohibits following a suspected evildoer. They are required to call the police and walk away. Just walk away. Since the police are not required to respond to calls unless a crime is committed, my guess is Sanford prefers crime to stopping criminals and risking another Zimmerman-style trial.
