A short one tonight....

Mama Liberty has an interesting point to make about governments, supply, and demand. [Link]

Last year, I wrote "Your Groceries are Shrinking." Anyone who cooks and buys groceries knows that this is getting worse all the time. Not just packages shrinking, but whole categories of food and other products are either vanishing or becoming too expensive for everyday use.

Fruits and vegetables are a very easily identified example. There are many factors involved, and some are simply not even noticed by a great many people. It is easy for some unthinking folks to blame the farmers, or the climate, or even the grocery store, but there is just so much more at work here.

Nothing to do with guns.... or maybe it does, sorta.

I'm going to have to address the mess in Santa Barbara, aren't I? I thought so. We have a psychopath, who'd like me to mention his name. He killed a few people with an edged weapon. He killed a few with a gun. He ran over a few with a BMW. So obviously, we need to ban guns, edged weapons, and BMWs, right? Nope. WE have to ban more guns. Dave Cole puts it well at the [Link]

Gun Prohibitionist: These killings prove the need for more gun control!
Dave: Such as?
GP: We should pass universal background checks for all gun transfers!
Dave: California has "universal background checks." The killer submitted to, and passed background checks.
GP: We should outlaw high capacity magazines!
Dave: California limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds, which is what the killer used.
GP: Well, all guns should be registered!
Dave: California requires handguns be registered, and the killer had registered his.
GP: He had three pistols! It should be illegal to buy three pistols all at once!
Dave: He didn't buy them all at once. California only allows one handgun purchase per month.
GP: Well…um…there should be a waiting period for gun purchases!
Dave: California has a 10-day waiting period for all purchases.
GP: Er…mandatory safety training?
Dave: Californians must take and pass a safety test and be issued a Handgun Safety Certificate before purchasing a gun.
GP: Well, there must be some law that could be passed to keep this from happening again!
Dave: True. California could pass shall-issue concealed carry, universal reciprocity, and eliminate "gun free zones."
GP: You know that's not what I mean, Dave.
Dave: Yeah. I know.

Nothing more needs to be said.

I'm sure glad I don't live in Colorado no mo'. Never thought I'd say that. But between the anti-Constitutional gun law and this latest ongoing debacle, enslaving citizens AND violating their 1st Amendment rights, Colorado is now worse than New York! (Did I REALLY just say that?) [Link] Now, let me make this crystal clear- marriage is a human right. It can be religious or secular, machts nicht. Gays getting married has ZERO effect on Christian heterosexual marriage. That being said, NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO FORCE ANOTHER TO VIOLATE THEIR DEEPLY HELD RELIGIOUS BELIEFSJUST BECAUSE THAT PERSON HAS A BUSINESS.

DENVER (AP)—Colorado's Civil Rights Commission on Friday ordered a baker to make wedding cakes for same-sex couples, finding his religious objections to the practice did not trump the state's anti-discrimination statutes.

Bullshit. People have ZERO right to force another to labor against their religious principles. This gay couple sued for one reason- spite. Phillips told them he'd sell them any baked goods he makes, except for wedding cakes, because he felt that gay marriage is a sin, and he cannot help sanctify a sin. He recommended several nearby bakers that would make a cake.

Phillips, a devout Christian who owns the Masterpiece Cakeshop in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, said the decision violates his First Amendment rights to free speech and free exercise of his religion. "I will stand by my convictions until somebody shuts me down," he told reporters after the ruling.

He added his bakery has been so overwhelmed by supporters eager to buy cookies and brownies that he does not currently make wedding cakes.

I hope he stands strong.

Her dogs are covered with bite wounds, and the owner of the attacking dogs say she had no right to kill.... [Link] I question ONLY the poor woman's choice of weapon.

  • Debbie Duran claims two Pit Bulls attacked her friend and one of her three German Sheperds
  • The Pit Bull's owner Kelly Suggs said that Duran was not justified in stabbing her dogs to death like 'a mad woman'
  • Duran, who carries a knife on her at all times for protection, was allowed to keep her weapon because she acted in self defense
  • Suggs lost her dogs and was given a $200 fine because her pets ran loose from an open garage
  • ----------------------------------------------------------------

Suggs said that even though both her Pit Bulls got loose through an open garage, that no one should have stabbed her dogs to deatyh.

'This lady was walking around, I think, with the intent to kill the dog,' Suggs said.

'Who walks around with a butcher knife? We all walk our dogs around here.'

Debbie Duran's Dogs suffered from bite wounds but Suggs lost both her Pit Bulls and faces a $200 fine for allowing her dogs to get loose.

Sheriffs and animal control officers allowed Duran to keep her filet knife because she acted out of self-defense.

The fact her dogs attacked and wounded two dogs in the company of a person is irrelevant to this asshole- and I happen to be a dog person, and a fan of the pit bull, which is unjustifiably maligned because of the assholes who own them.
