Sally had worked much later than she had intended to, and hurried as she crossed the dimly lit lobby to the front. The old security guard shuffled toward her to unlock the door, wishing her a good evening and admonishing her to be careful. She stepped outside and listened to him lock the door behind her, wishing she could have requested an escort to her car a block away. He was too crippled, and couldn't leave his post anyway, but she still wished someone was with her.
Standing in the small pool of light from the doorway, she looked carefully in all directions. The old fashioned street lights were close to the ground and gave only a warm glow, but she could see that many were no longer working. A full moon peeked out from behind scudding clouds now and then, but the moonlight seemed to result in more shadows than anything else.
The street to her left sloped down to the river and abandoned docks, where rumor had it gangs were hanging out these days. The whole area had deteriorated in the ten years she'd worked there, and she noticed especially that more buildings than ever were dark and closed tight. Looking to the right, she could only see about a hundred yards to where the street crested the rise and vanished over the other side.

This, people, is what we get for supporting the police state we have allowed to grow in the US. [Link] We feel the entire story must be copied here. So we have.
Thirty-five-year-old Douglas Zerby was sitting cross-legged on his friend's back porch when police ambushed him, fatally shooting him 12 times in the chest, arms, and legs.
Zerby's crime? Holding a pistol-shaped spray nozzle that is normally attached to a hose.
Concerned neighbors who saw Zerby holding the nozzle called police because they were worried that he was actually holding "a six-shooter."
When police officers Jeffrey Shurtleff and Victor Ortiz arrived at the location, they concealed themselves in neighboring houses and opened fire on Zerby without ever announcing themselves or asking Zerby to do anything.
Zerby never had a chance.
He was completely unaware the police had been called. He was also unaware of their presence when they unloaded 12 bullets into his body.
Last year, the Zerby family was awarded $6.5 million for Zerby's death. The jury ruled that the cops were negligent and used excessive force.
"The most important thing is they never announced their presence," said the family's attorney attorney, Garo Mardirossian.
"They didn't give him an opportunity to at least cooperate, to do what the officers wanted him to do," he continued.
"The first time he realized there were cops there is when they shot him, and that just should not happen in America," he said.
And as Zerby's sister pointed out:
You cannot shoot another human being as law enforcement when they have not committed a crime, are not confrontational, hostile, aggressive or threatening, and are on private property without identifying yourselves first and you can't say someone pointed something at someone that they didn't know was even there.
In the [1963] words of Martin Luther King: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
One commenter perhaps said it best... "My taxes pay these people to know the difference between a gun and a water hose or child's cap gun. I want my money back."
I'm sure Douglas would prefer his family have less money and HE had a life left.
This is proof (as if we need more) that Nanny Bloomberg, filthy rich hoplophobic scumbag, has zero brain power when it comes to dealing with people who do NOT live in NYC. [Link]
Michael Bloomberg gave 2nd Amendment advocates, as well as Coloradans of every ideological persuasion, plenty to get cranky about when his uninformed and condescending remarks about the State were printed in a Rolling Stone interview the magazine erroneously posted a few days too early to its website (cached version here).
Bloomberg's offending words? "The NRA went after two or three state senators in a part of Colorado where I don't think there's roads. It's as far rural as you can get. And, yes, they lost recall elections."
Pueblo has many paved roads. In fact, most of Colorado has paved roads.
The biggest beneficiary from Bloomberg's dorkism is probably Republican Gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez, who pounced on the remarks by offering this statement:
Michael Bloomberg's infuriatingly ignorant remarks show how far removed he is from Colorado, and how wrong John Hickenlooper was to let Bloomberg force his radical agenda on Colorado.

Seig heil,Fuhrer Cuomo. It has come to our attention that our state, New York, has taken it's next step towards a total police state, using the NYSP (New York Sturm Polizei) to enforce his will. And this is the next step. [Link]
In a post on the nyfirearms.com forum entitled, "NY State Police Just Came to My Home and Took Everything," a Nassau County man describes how he received a visit from State Police who wanted to inspect the serial number of a semi-automatic rifle he had just purchased.
"I brought him to my safe, opened it and the 2nd officer went in and took out my cx4, Remington 70 sps and Remington 870 shotgun. Then he says that I had a misdemeanor possession charge 15 years ago and all the guns will be taken," the man wrote, adding that he was put through the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System when he purchased the guns with no issues.
At this point we must remind ALL of you to NEVER allow a police officer to enter your home, or to look over the interior of your vehicle, outbuildings, or rental storage units without a warrant. Once granted permission to enter, ANYTHING they do is technically (though not Constitutionally) legal. What his response SHOULD have been was "Do you have a warrant, Officer? No? Then NO, you may not enter. Go see the judge." Hell, we NEVER allow an officer of the law to enter our home, and we ALWAYS tell them they have no permission to come onto the property. When someone stole a battery from a neighbor's parked truck, and one of our Sturm Polizei attempted to interview us about it, we denied him entry to the property, and refused to even give him our ages. Our age, sex, and marital status are none of his business. He was not happy. However, we have digressed. Back to the article.
The man now faces having to get permission from a judge in order to have his firearms returned.

After the passage of the the NY Safe Act back in April, which was described by Governor Andrew Cuomo as the "toughest" gun control law in the United States, less than 10 per cent of residents obeyed by registering their assault-style weapons.
Some Sheriffs publicly stated that they would not order their deputies to enforce the law, while Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb derided the Safe Act as "the worst piece of legislation I have seen in my 14 years as a member of the Assembly."
Fortunately, MY county sheriff has refused to enforce the laws.
We are confronted, yet again, with a supposed "institution of higher learning" that denies students the right to... learn about and discuss the Constitution. [Link]
Students at a small Virgina college have been denied the right to form a gun club on campus.
Patrick Winslow, a student at ECPI University, wished to create a gun rights club in order that he and his fellow students might be able to discuss "the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, federal and state laws regarding gun control and gun laws and so forth."
Surprisingly, even though the club would focus on educating other students on guns as well as the laws surrounding their use, the university shot them down saying the club's goal to discuss guns "does not correlate to program enhancement or community service."
Educating students about guns and gun laws does not enhance the program of a college offering law enforcement training? We find this to be not only improbable, but troubling as well. Training potential police officers about the Constitution and the law in regards to the 2nd Amendment doesn't enhance the program. And one wonders why this country seems headed to hell in a handbasket.

One Nebraska man wants Obama out.
A scene depicting Obama as a zombie in overalls standing by an outhouse labeled "Obama's Presidential Library" was among the floats that rolled through town during a Fourth of July parade in Norfolk on Friday.
The dummy, whose head and hands appeared greenish, stood between a walker and the wooden outhouse on the back of a blue pickup truck decorated with American flags.
Some locals were outraged at the display, calling it racist and offensive to the office of the President.
"I'm angry and I'm scared. This float was not just political; this was absolutely a racial statement," Glory Kathurima, a Norfolk resident originally from Kenya, told the Lincoln Journal Star.
But parade organizers said the float didn't violate rules against images "considered morally objectionable" and the exhibit was met with loud cheers from the crowd.
Three judges from the parade committee awarded it an honorable mention.
The controversial entry came from an unidentified "long-standing member of the community," Rick Konopasek, from the parade organizing committee, told the paper.
"This was a day to celebrate independence and part of that is speech and expression. He exercised his rights ... this was political satire. If we start saying no to certain floats, we might as well not have a parade at all," Konopasek said.
Priceless. One wonders why these people are afraid of a float. U-tube link to the pathetic news reportage.
We find the attitude of IKEA odd, but perfectly acceptable. [Link] After all, if one DOES want a "weapons free/safe to commit crimes" zone, one must prohibit ALL firearms. And, with the "I'm the LAW, I'm better than the lowly civilians" attitude of today's police, they deserve no less than equal treatment by business.
In 35 years in law enforcement, says the Takoma Park Police chief, he's never had this happen.
He's never had a store tell him that he would have to leave his service weapon in the car or leave the store—especially when he was in his police uniform.

And that's when a loss-prevention officer at the store approached him.
"He says we have a no firearms policy, and you're either going to have to leave or you can lock your gun in the car," Goldberg said.
The store has signs posted on the front door that read "Weapons Free Environment."
Neither of those options seemed a good one to the officer. "It isn't the most prudent thing to do to walk around the store in uniform with an empty holster," he said. "And I am not going to lock my gun in a commercial parking lot, with people watching me put it in there. That's just ludicrous."
Sauce for the goose, officer. After all, you have no problem enforcing laws disarming Joe and Jane Citizen. Of course, when IKEA has an armed robbery, we suggest you ALSO leave your firearms in the car.... or better yet, simply refuse to go at all. Again, sauce for the goose....
