Obama's "job" -- if he has one at all -- doesn't even touch on this internet thing. And begging him to do anything at all about it is only feeding the myth that he has any legitimate authority to dictate anything to anyone. Of course, that last applies to any politician or bureaucrat anywhere, at any time, and most people just don't even think about it, so it's no surprise good folks believe they can manipulate and control those they've placed in control of their lives and property. When some people are given power over other people, tyranny is the inevitable result. In the end it will be irrelevant what this "president" does or doesn't do. The myth and the tyranny are starting to crumble. People who want an internet, or anything else, will find a way to build it and maintain it. If they are smart, they won't be asking the controllers to help them or hinder their competition. And they won't be giving anyone permission to tax and regulate them. MamaLiberty
Exercising legal rights Recently Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO.org) published this reporting how certain members of the Senate corresponded with the owners of Kroger's to pressure them into banning the open carry of long guns in their stores. I would like to review some points of interest with the "honorable" Senators. Up until 1994 that was the only legally permitted way to go heeled in Texas, the state most of these events occur. The state Constitution pretty much guarantees the right to carry long guns but gives the legislature the right to regulate the carrying of handguns. For all practical purposes the "regulation was simple to understand, you can't. Around '94 Texas passed legislation permitting the concealed carry of handguns with a license. In 2009 they legalized the unlicensed carrying of a handgun in a motor vehicle. It is still illegal to openly carry a pistol in public for all practical purposes. Why are you getting bent out of shape over people carrying, even in a store, the only way the law allowed until relatively recently? The Senators in question cite the idea that shoppers and employees at Kroger's might experience fear seeing people walking around visibly armed. The Constitution enumerates a right to keep and bear arms. It does not guarantee a right to to not get scared of people carrying arms or to be spared being uncomfortable around people exercising their right to keep and bear arms. Enumerated rights beat imagined rights every time. Finally, you are asking Kroger's to ban people from openly carrying weapons in your stores because it makes other customers afraid and uncomfortable. Okay, let's do this. Some people are frightened and uncomfortable around people wearing gang tattoos, colors, and/or cuts. So let's ban those people from Kroger's. And you know, people of Color are sill afraid and uncomfortable around their oppressors, so let's ban White people from Kroger's in Black and Latino neighborhoods. And since some White people are afraid of Black people and Latinos... Once you admit discriminating against people for exercising their legal rights you open a door that most decent Americans want nailed shut. A.X. Perez
