THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE Number 809, February 15, 2015 The only reason Obama wants to control the Internet is to shut us up. Attribute to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise It has taken me an unusually long time to get this particular article started. Individual freedom of expression has always been the most important political and social issue to me; I have resisted being shut up by the authorities all of my life. I did know what it had to say: The Federal Communications Commission must be abolished and Obama impeached! At Choctawhatchee High School I was the newspaper's cartoonist. I received orders several times, demanding that I change what I had drawn or written. I had no choice but to comply. I only hope that the Principal lived just long enough to see his whole world change around him. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! In various things I wrote for gun magazines, I predicted what the badguys were going to try to do to us. One editor (his name was Jerry, but it wasn't Jerry Rakusan, editor of Guns, called me hysterical. I will always blame that lackadaisical attitude for the mess we live in now. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! My editor at Del Rey wanted me to cut the sex from my first novel, The Probability Broach, saying it depicted something that was against the law in 17 states and the District of Columbia—as if I cared. I replied in an essay written on the back of the manuscript pages in red Flair pen—he referred to it afterward as the time I wrote to him in lipstick—that the scene in question didn't mention a single sexual act, or name one body part, and that his wife, a librarian, would agree with me about freedom of speech. I won that argument, which is why you get to see the first night that Win and Clarissa spent together. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! I grew up knowing what had happened to Lenny Bruce. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! So I am deeply concerned with people in government expressing a desire to control what appears on the Internet, the greatest arena of free speech in human history, or to decide who can put it there. The Federal Communications Commission is attempting to impose regulations on the Internet. I predict that it will result in a long, bloody (cybernetically speaking) campaign, which the FCC will ultimately lose. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! The First Amendment to the United States Constitution the highest law of the land, reads: "CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" (emphasis added) Freedom of religion, speech, the press, and even petition. Fcc regulation of the Internet severely threatens all three and must be resisted. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! My problem arose when I did research for this article. One by one, FCC commissioners were quoted disagreeing with the proposition that there should be regulation of the Internet, or that their agency should do it. The unsurprising fact was that the whole effort was being driven by one guy. Barack H. Obama, a hoaxer made almost entirely out of lies. He has now written his own book of regulations which he won't let the public see, but which we are assured will do the same thing for the Internet that Obamacare has done for health and medicine. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! Maybe he can burn the copies of his 332-page law to keep him warm under the bridge I'd like to see him relegated to after he's disposed of. He can also have a lifetime supply of Michelle's school lunches to eat. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! Look: if you recall nothing else about this article, recall this: the only reason that Obama wants to control the Internet is to shut us up. The only reason Obama wants to control the Internet is to shut us up. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! Free speech is the life's breath of a civilized society. I help to breathe that breath, and I see anybody who tries to stop me as a murderer, with a pillow in his hands to suffocate me. We killed people like that in Europe and the Pacific in the '40s, and Korea in the '50s. That's what the Vietnam War was supposed to have been all about. If we believe the government (a mighty big "if") that's what we're up against again: people who believe that if you say their religion is silly, they have some duty or right to kill you. This isn't just a Muslim phenomenon, I've heard from Baptists who believe the same thing. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! People like this should be put on notice: this is a pluralistic society, not a multicultural one. Everybody in it has a right to think and say anything they want, about religion or anything else. Everybody has an equal right to be offended. Or else what have we been fighting for? The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! Ultimately, the FCC was born of the federal government's wartime perception that it needed to control radio communications. No society with something like the First Amendment in its basic organizing documents has any place for—or any use for—something like the FCC. Broadcasters had all their rights and obligations figured out long before the FCC came along and screwed everything up. Color television could have ben born the same year I was, but the prissy commissioners found the technology unaesthetic. It's time to do away with this Progressive Age relic. I know many of you don't believe this kind of thing works, but I believe 100,000 letters to each Senator might start the long-overdue process of dismantling and abolishing the FCC. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! The FCC must be ended now. Every fine they ever collected must be returned with interest from the pockets of commissioners, past and present, and estates of the dead. They committed a crime against the Constitution. The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached! As for Obama, if my Congressman won't move to impeach him, I'll start a recall movement. I don't care how little time Obama has left in office. If he only had 20 minutes left, it would be necessary to remove him, as an example to others, and as punishment for wrecking America. I don't believe in regulated freedom. Do you? The FCC must be abolished now—and Obama impeached!
