The Unapologetic Falsehoods of the Increasingly Discredited Associated Press

Special to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

In an otherwise unrelated Jan. 24 news story about President Donald Trump signing executive orders to get some major oil pipelines (purposely stalled by Barack Obama in his ongoing effort to cripple America’s energy industry and thus drive up our electric bills) back on track, The Associated Press couldn’t help themselves, adding:

“Yet even as Trump moves to implement his agenda, he is still making false claims.”

(Note this was in a supposedly “straight news” story—not identified as an opinion piece—credited to The AP’s Darlene Superville, Ken Thomas, Erica Werner, Jonathan Lemire and Jill Colvin. And the same assertion was repeated in other AP stories filed from Washington the same day.)

“During a reception with lawmakers at the White House Monday evening, Trump claimed the reason he’d lost the popular vote to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton was that 3 million to 5 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally had voted,” The AP writers reported.

“There is no evidence to support Trump’s claim. He made a similar statement on Twitter in late November that he had won the Electoral College in a ‘landslide’ and ‘won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.’ Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 2.9 million votes but lost the electoral contest.

“Trump’s assertion appears to be part of a continuing pattern for him and his new administration in which falsehoods overshadow his outreach efforts,” the AP writers concluded.

Please note The Associated Press did not say “Trump may be exaggerating the number of illegal aliens who cast illegal ballots; the precise number has not been established.”

No, no. They accused the president of uttering a “falsehood,” clearly implying NO substantial or significant or measurable number of illegal aliens cast illegal ballots in the 2016 American presidential election, clearly asserting EVERY VOTE of Hillary Clinton’s “2.9 million popular vote majority” was valid and untainted.

But here’s the thing: THAT’S a lie. It’s The Associated Press, not Donald Trump, that’s lying. And there’s plenty of evidence.

The following column was written four years ago (though no change in voter registration procedures or union behavior has rendered it out of date) by Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial writer Glenn Cook, who has since been promoted to managing editor of that daily newspaper, the largest in Nevada.

I know Glenn Cook. My desk was beside his—literally next to his—while he was working on this column; making phone calls, receiving phone calls, dashing out of the office for interviews. He did not make this stuff up. His rectitude and thoroughness and attention to detail and balance in preparing this column would make a Boy Scout proud. This column proves the Culinary Union registers illegal aliens in Las Vegas, and then pressures them to illegally vote in national, presidential elections. Read it here:

http://www.reviewjournal.com/glenn-cook/how-many-noncitizens-are-registered-vote

“Voter registration fraud is not a groundless conspiracy,” Cook stated—a fact he then proceeded to prove. “It is not a hypothetical threat to election integrity. In Nevada, a battleground state that could decide the presidency and control of the U.S. Senate, it is real.

“Last week, I met with two immigrant noncitizens who are not eligible to vote, but who nonetheless are active registered voters for Tuesday’s election,” Cook continued. “They said they were signed up by Culinary Local 226….

“Then the election drew closer. Then the Culinary canvassers started seeking them out and ordering them to go vote.

“One of the immigrants was visited at home by a Culinary representative and said the operative made threats of deportation if no ballot was cast….

“One day, when a Culinary representative was told the immigrant wasn’t a citizen and wouldn’t vote, things got testy. The immigrant was “in so much trouble,” the Culinary operative said, according to Brenda Moraine, a local immigrant advocate who was there,” Cook continues.

“One of the immigrants validated my worst fears about Nevada’s weak voter registration standards and voting safeguards.

“‘There are others,’ the immigrant said.

“Other noncitizen Culinary workers are registered to vote?

“‘Yes.’

“The question,” Cook points out, “now that early voting is over and Election Day is just two days away, is how many of these ineligible voters have done the Culinary’s bidding and submitted ballots, whether out of ignorance or fear, and how many have the knowledge and courage to follow the law and stay away from the polls.

(In Nevada, as in many states, unions can and do instruct their members to request absentee ballots. There’s no longer any need to prove—or even claim—you’ll be out of town or in the hospital on election day. Union shop stewards can then collect the completed ballots—no safeguard prevents them from checking to make sure they’re filled out “correctly”—and mail or deliver them in bulk to the county clerk’s office for counting. So much for the “privacy of the voting booth.”—V.S.)

“In Nevada you never have to prove you’re a citizen to register to vote or cast a ballot,” Cook explains. “Forget about showing government-issued photo identification at the polls, as several states now require. You don’t have to show a photo ID at any point in the process. The immigrants I met could vote Tuesday just by showing a Culinary health insurance card and a power bill.

Evidence? Cook went to the source.

“‘One would establish identity and one would establish residence,’ Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said of state standards. ‘Just like every other voter in Nevada, they will not be asked to prove citizenship.’

“You can’t cash a check in this town with such flimsy identification,” Cook concludes.

But you can vote.

‘I’VE THOUGHT ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY THAT HE’S PRESIDENT, AND I FEEL TERROR,’ SHE SAID … IN SPANISH

So: Do you think officials of the Culinary Union—who of course denied everything to Mr. Cook—having registered two, or four, or eight illegals and bused them to the polls in hopes of benefiting the Democratic candidates who the union almost universally supports, would then have said, “Gosh, now that we see we can get away with this with no repercussions, we’d better stop right there. We CERTAINLY wouldn’t want to sign up MORE THAN TEN THOUSAND ILLEGAL ALIENS and bus THEM to the polls, in order to actually throw Nevada into the ‘win’ column for our favored candidates, Hillary Clinton or Catherine Cortez Masto, would we?” Really?

Then maybe you’d better read this: >https://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/oct/29/unions-flex-muscle-in-nevadas-high-stakes-senate-r/

On Oct. 29, 2016—less than three months ago, and less than two weeks before Nevada went for Hillary Clinton by a slim 26,000-vote margin on Nov. 8 (with ONLY union-heavy Clark County/Las Vegas, out of all Nevada’s counties, “going blue”)—Michelle Rindels of The Associated Press—yep, The Associated Press, which can’t find ANY EVIDENCE of illegals voting in our presidential races—wrote the following:

“A busload of casino housekeepers wearing pinstripe uniforms and Caesars Palace nametags waited at a warehouse early voting site just off the Las Vegas Strip, speaking in Spanish as they clutched pocket-sized brochures listing candidates endorsed by the powerful Culinary Union.

“Asked who they chose in Nevada’s super-close Senate race, one worker simply said “the Democrat.” Another identified her choice as Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto, explaining with an argument progressive groups have relentlessly lobbed against Republican Rep. Joe Heck even after he revoked his endorsement of Donald Trump earlier this month.

“‘What I know about Joe Heck is he’s totally leaning toward Donald Trump,’ Ana Aguirre, 40, said in Spanish, adding that she was particularly concerned that Heck is open to revisiting the idea of birthright citizenship.”

Really? A Las Vegas hotel maid who needed her union’s help getting to the polls, more comfortable speaking Spanish than English, showed familiarity with the details of the relatively arcane American Constitutional debate about who is granted “birthright citizenship” under the 14th Amendment? And this is added as a paraphrased summary, not quoted or translated verbatim? Pardon my skepticism, as we continue:

“And on Trump? ‘I’ve thought about the possibility that he’s president, and I feel terror,’ she said.”

Goodness. Why do you think any United States citizen would be “terrified” of President Donald Trump? Because he might OK the Keystone pipeline?

Must we pretend to be morons, here? The most likely reason Democratic voters more comfortable speaking Spanish than English might have “felt terror” at the prospect of the election of Donald Trump would be because they feared under his leadership America’s immigration enforcement agents might deport them, as required by law, because they’re illegal aliens. Right?

“Inflamed by Trump’s candidacy but with an eye on turning the whole ticket blue,” continues Michelle Rindels of The AP, “organized labor groups including the heavily immigrant Culinary Union are in the thick of an aggressive get-out-the-vote campaign that’s contributing to Democrats’ early voting turnout lead in Nevada, and raising alarms for down-ticket Republicans. The union’s work so far this cycle included ensuring 34,000 of its members are registered to vote, reassigning 150 of its members to full-time political work and leading a ground operation that’s knocked on more than 200,000 doors.

“Workers try to sway their co-workers in casino cafeterias and by phone, and they’re leaving no room for excuses in physically getting people to the polls,” Ms. Rindels continued to gush, with undisguised enthusiasm and approval – and not a word of concern about how many of those voters have a legal right to vote. “Chartered buses shuttle casino workers to an early voting site during their paid lunch break, and they’re handed a boxed lunch for the ride back.”

Did she just say the union buys them a free lunch in exchange for voting? A century ago, the Tammany Hall ward heelers would buy you a beer in exchange for entering the polling place and dropping one of their party’s pre-printed ballots—clearly identifiable by color from across the room—into the ballot box. Somehow I thought paying someone to vote was now illegal.

And The AP really believes all those union workers are LEGAL VOTERS? Come on. Are we supposed to have just fallen off the turnip truck? If they’re legal voters, given that you’re supposed to be able to speak English to be a U.S. citizen—and given what Mr. Cook documented for us four years ago about this very union’s registration and “voter encouragement” methods—why is this wire service reporter interviewing these Las Vegas union voters IN SPANISH?

The number of illegal aliens working in Nevada casinos—and thus almost all signed up as members of the Culinary Union—is in the TENS OF THOUSANDS. I lived in the town for decades. You don’t have to be a trained detective to figure this out.

What does the AP want, five million signed and witnessed confessions, listing home addresses, with a p.s. reading “Please come deport me”? If I asserted five million Americans have smoked marijuana, would the AP call that an “unproven falsehood” until I presented them with 5 million signed confessions?

IF AN ‘UNDOCUMENTED’ PERSON VOTES, ‘WILL THEY COME FOR MY FAMILY AND DEPORT US?’

Next let’s visit >https://lasvegassun.com/news/2014/apr/18/illegal-immigrant-arrested-nevada-voter-fraud/ (the Web site, by the way, of Las Vegas’ left-wing, pro-Hillary newspaper):

“Illegal immigrant arrested for Nevada voter fraud,” the—one more time … wait for it—the ASSOCIATED PRESS reported on April 18, 2014, out of Carson City, Nevada:

“Secretary of State Ross Miller says a woman has been arrested on two felony charges for allegedly using a false identity to register to vote and casting ballots in Nevada elections.

“Miller late Friday announced the arrest of Ortencia Segura in California.

“A complaint filed by the attorney general’s office says Segura registered to vote in Washoe County in August 2008 and provided identification with the name of Marisela Reyna. Authorities confirmed she voted in the 2008 and 2010 elections.

“Authorities say information from the Justice Department show Segura was arrested in 2012 and deported for filing a false statement on a passport application. They say she also had a false Nevada driver’s license, prompting the investigation.

“Miller says Segura was arrested Thursday for entering the country illegally.”

Hm? “That’s only one! That’s only one!”?

How about the fact that in 248 of Detroit’s 662 precincts, more votes were recorded on voter machines than should have been in the November presidential election? (See http://dailycaller.com/2016/12/14/this-isnt-normal-too-many-votes-in-37-of-detroit-precincts/?utm_campaign=atdailycaller&utm_source.)

How about 1,046 illegal aliens registered to vote in just nine Virginia counties ( >http://www.thepoliticalinsider.com/virginia-voter-fraud-thousands-illegal-aliens-registered-vote/)?

What about 83 absentee ballots—all bearing the names of different supposed “voters”—all delivered to the same one-bedroom apartment in San Pedro, California ( http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/11/03/voter-fraud-california-man-finds-dozens-ballots-stacked-outside-home.html?)

Each case—each “tip of the iceberg”—is duly “investigated” in a perfunctory manner, like a fireman dousing a few smouldering embers and then departing, without pointing out that across the road the entire forest is on fire—at which point we’re told “No pattern of fraud here; it was merely mechanical error” or “No pattern of fraud here, it was merely human error.” Well of course massive voter fraud is going to be carried out by agencies either human and mechanical or both—did they think they were looking for a pattern of vote fraud committed by mallard ducks or largemouth bass?

Yet when Donald Trump says illegal aliens voted in the presidential election, that’s a “false claim”—an “unproven falsehood”?

Remember, the wire service doesn’t merely assert the NUMBER of illegal votes remains unclear. They claim it’s a LIE, in toto!

To learn otherwise, these oh-so-thorough AP investigative reporters wouldn’t have to look any further than a story by by Chad Groening at One News Now, headlined: “ALIPAC: Trump spot- on—illegals voted.”

(See … https://www.onenewsnow.com/politics-govt/2016/11/30/alipac-trump-spot-on-illegals-voted.)

“An immigration enforcement organization has compiled what it believes is solid evidence that supports President-elect Donald Trump’s claims of mass voter fraud in the 2016 elections, Mr. Groening reported almost two months ago.

“In the weeks leading up to Election Day, the GOP presidential candidate warned the election was ‘rigged’ because of a massive amount of votes cast by non-citizens. Regardless, Trump won the Electoral College vote—but claimed that he would have won the popular vote as well if it weren’t for thousands and thousands of fraudulent votes cast for Hillary Clinton by non- citizens.

“William Gheen, president of the Americans for Ilegal Immigration PAC, tells OneNewsNow there’s ample evidence to support Trump’s claims.

“‘We’re pulling things out of the archives … to help justify and prove that point and the position,’ he begins. ‘One of the most compelling things is a video of President Obama when he came out and told Spanish- speaking audiences that no one was checking voter registration forms for legal presence across the country.

(The original video Mr. Gheen refers to—the ORIGINAL, not a version “edited by Fox Business”—is at >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLLt-a6dI_0. Many in the Fake News business have contended “Fox Business” edited this video to give the false impression that Barack Obama said illegals can vote without repercussions. But in fact, that’s exactly what he says.

Interviewer Gina Rodriguez asks: “Many of the millennials, ‘Dreamers,’ undocumented citizens, and I call them citizens because they contribute to this country, are fearful of voting. So if I vote, will immigration know where I live, will they come for my family and deport us?”

“Not true,” Mr. Obama responds, “and the reason is, when you vote, you are a citizen yourself, and it’s not a situation where the voting rolls are somehow transferred over, and people start investigating…. The sancity of the vote is strictly confidential.”

It’s true this is confusing. But the lady asked whether they’d come to get and deport an “undocumented citizen, and I call them citizens because they contribute to this country,” if such a person voted. Clearly, she’s up to the old tricks of the amnesty-for-illegals gang, redefining “citizens” to include “undocumented” persons (that is, in plain English, illegal aliens) simply because they “contribute to this country” in some way—maybe by paying sales tax when they buy a pair of shoes. President Obama then replies “Not true.”

Why?

Because, “When you vote, you are a citizen yourself.”

It sure sounds like he’s saying such a person becomes a citizen THROUGH THE SIMPLE, ILLEGAL ACT OF VOTING, and that no one is going to review those voter rolls to try and catch such criminal illegals and deport them for voting. (And why not? Isn’t that exactly what we SHOULD be doing? No one’s talking about trying to determine who any legal voter voted FOR.) Then-President Obama does, indeed, reassure Ms. Rodriguez’s viewers that nothing bad will happen to them if they vote, after she introduces her question by saying “undocumented citizens … are fearful of voting.”

She even explains why she calls these “undocumented” persons (meaning illegal aliens) “citizens,” in yet another example of attempting to re-define crimes out of existence (like calling child molesters “youth romance tutors” or the mutilators of female genitalia “people from exotic foreign lands with different customs which we must respect because they’re merely here to help enhance our cultural diversity.”)

Does Barack Obama correct the young propagandist’s false definition of “citizens”? No. Does he look stern and say, “Well, first off pardon me but let’s be clear—you have to be a citizen to vote in this country. I mean a REAL citizen, not just someone who believes they OUGHT to be considered a ‘citizen’ because they’ve ‘contributed something to this country.'”? No, he does not.

This might sound absurd, except that we know this is exactly the way Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton WANT THINGS TO BE—no immigration enforcement, that anyone who can sneak into this country and bluff their way into a voting booth and vote should be given amnesty and BECOME A CITIZEN, facing NO REPERCUSSIONS FOR THEIR CRIMES, until America becomes a Third World country with a minaret replacing the church steeple in the middle of every town and a standard of living no higher than the hellholes these people come from.

(Read Dinesh D’Souza’s book “Obama’s America,” where you’ll find all this spelled out IN OBAMA’S OWN WORDS. American impoverishment and helpless resignation to decline as we’re swarmed by non-English-speaking illegals were not SIDE EFFECTS of Obama’s policies; they were his INTENTION, his depraved “punishment of the arrogant West for its history of colonialism.”)

The Left’s entire endless and wearisome “Not My President” narrative that Donald Trump is somehow a racist is based on the premise that anyone who tries to enforce America’s immigration laws, as currently written, IS A RACIST!

“‘That’s the real key,’ adds Mr. Gheen. ‘We know there are illegal immigrants voting because, as President Obama says, no one is checking.’”

And Gheen says much additional evidence has been uncovered.

“‘We have newspaper reports (of) people who have interviewed illegal immigrants who (admit they) registered and voted. We have illegal immigrants themselves saying ‘Yeah, I registered, I voted,’” he explains. “We’ve had states that have studied and found illegal immigrants registered and voting in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada…. ”

BECAUSE IT WOULD COST THEM 5 MILLION RECURRING ILLEGAL DEMOCRATIC VOTES, OF COURSE

In fact, Fox News reported way back on Aug. 15 that Hillary Clinton’s campaign was PUBLICLY recruiting “Undocumented ‘Dreamers’” (in other words—illegal aliens, presumably under the age of 35, though no one really checks) to run the Democrats’ Hispanic voter registration drives.

(See http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/08/15/clinton-campaign-enlists-undocumented-dreamers-for-voter-registration-drive.html.)

“Hillary Clinton is enlisting undocumented ‘Dreamers’ into a new voter registration drive aimed at signing up sympathetic voters with warnings that Donald Trump’s immigration plans could result in their deportation—though the Dreamers themselves cannot legally vote,” Fox reported.

(How about “cannot legally even be in this country”? And what about the responsibility of officers of the court—attorneys—and former cabinet members to TURN IN such lawbreakers to the proper authorities, once located? Would the news networks be just as enthusiastic if the Clinton campaign had announced they were “enlisting pedophiles in a new voter registration drive called ‘My Infant Love Slave, Your Vote,’ aimed at signing up child molesters with warnings that Donald Trump’s law-enforcement plans could result in their trial and imprisonment”?)

“Clinton’s national voter registration program, called ‘Mi Sueño, Tu Voto/My Dream, Your Vote,’ was announced Sunday,” Fox News continued, “on the four-year anniversary of the 2012 order that temporarily shielded from deportation some young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.

“The 730,000 young people known as Dreamers are prohibited from voting,” Fox said—almost as though that meant they DON’T vote. “However, they remain a powerful political organizing force, and the Clinton campaign hopes to use them to convince Latino and other households to go to the polls for the Democratic nominee.

“Organizers will remind voters that a Trump presidency would end the Dreamer program, according to the campaign, which is already at risk after a June Supreme Court (ruling) effectively killed Obama’s efforts to give legal status to some of the 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally.”

Finally, before dubbing something a “falsehood” just because they find it unpleasant to confront, these poor, bumbling, near-sighted AP reporters might want to check out the Republican National Lawyers’ Association Web site at https://www.rnla.org/votefraud.asp, which in turn cites an editorial from “The Hill,” Aug. 2, 2016, headlined: “Bill Clinton’s Call for Mass Voter Fraud Should Be Condemned”:

“Illegal aliens have never had more incentives and ability to vote in our elections as they do this cycle,” sayeth The Hill. “After being told by the globalist elite they’re illegal entry into the country is without consequence, helps rather than hinders American workers, and unites the national culture, any existing moral qualms of further violating the law, such as by voting, have been thoroughly scrubbed away. Former president Bill Clinton all but ensured this in his speech at the DNC Convention last week….”

Our space runs short. Read the whole thing at: http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/judicial/290144-bill-clintons-call-for-mass-voter-fraud-should-be-condemned.

Along with Washington, D.C., California, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming require the display of NO Identification whatsoever before a person is allowed to vote.

And thanks to Bill Clinton’s 1993 Auto Fraudo (“Motor Voter”) Act, no proof of citizenship is required to register to vote—just a checkbox asking if they are legal. No ID, no checks, no penalties enforced.

Hillary Clinton “won” Nevada—a state with a very large illegal alien population—by only 26,000 votes. And populous blue states like California, New York and Illinois ran up Clinton’s popular vote totals … with no proof of ID or citizenship required to vote.

Instead of just assuming such paragons of rectitude as John Podesta and the Clintons would never have steered hundreds of thousands of illegals to the polls, when they had nothing to gain but hundreds of millions of dollars in thinly disguised bribes from the Saudis, et al., and control of the country for their no-borders/globalist agenda—and with that the ability to milk billions MORE in thinly disguised bribes—you’d think a major national news organization might want to examine some of this evidence, and do some probing of their own.

But it’s easier to just contribute to the pre-scripted far- left narrative that no one need take President Donald Trump seriously, because he (like Ronald Reagan before him—as they would have it) lives in some fantasy world where he just makes up “facts” as he goes along … isn’t it?

And you know what the final proof of Mr. Trump’s assertion about the illegal voters will be, don’t you? Wait until a Republican Congress proposes that Americans should have to show some proof of citizenship before being allowed to register, and a photo ID before being allowed to vote.

Oh, how the heavens will then resound to their whooping and shrieking and wailing!

And why? Because it could cost them 5 million illegal Democratic votes, of course.

Why else?
