Maybe

According to economists there is no such thing as a free lunch. Politicians hold office by promising their constituents a free lunch. On the night of 8 February 2018 Dr. Rand Paul shut down the government of the United States for five hours by trying to get his fellow senators to act like economists instead of politicians when passing the budget bill.

Maybe we should make him president or something.

Another Letter from A.X. Perez

In his State of the Union Address President Trump said many things that reminded me of why I am glad he won the 2016 Election. I'd rather Rand Paul had been elected, but better the Donald than Hillary Clinton. However, his comments on two issues show a profound misunderstanding of the situations involved.

The first is his stand on controlling illegal immigration. Nothing in his statements address the demand for immigrant low pay labor. Unless and until a way for people looking to do unskilledand semiskilled work to come into the US legally without waitingabout five years for a "Green Card" is developed we will have millions of illegal aliens sneaking in and thousands of "bad hombres" (and "mujeres") and wannabe welfare bums sneaking in among them.

The second disagreement I have with the President is his analysis of the "opioid crisis." He blames it on street drug dealers and gangs. The real problem the overuse of prescription drugs, a pharmaceutical industry that encourages it. However, as long as Jeff Sessions and other drug warriors are advising Mr. Trump and Congressmen on both sides of the aisle are dependent on big pharma's contributions, it would be foolish to expect otherwise.

I know Mrs. Clinton would have been as wrong on these points and probably moreso. Therefor, all I can say I that Mr. Trump needs more information and better advisors.
