Letter from L. Neil Smith

Yesterday, May 12, was my 73rd birthday. I received dozens and dozens of messages from well-wishers, far too many to respond to individually. To old friends, to new friends, and to friends I haven’t met yet, thank you very much for your kind thoughts—and rest assured that I worked yesterday, on Robert A. Heinlein’s sage advice, “even on your birthday”.

News From Texas

Above you will note picture of Cold Steel's FGX Balisong. The blade is Griv-EX and the handle is "other strategic non-metal materials." The blade is double edged and serrated, it is neither Manila or Batangas. Has a high tech stone age look and is suitable for some chores, it's more than just a toy. In the words of Doug Marcaida, "this knife will cut." It will specifically stab and slash. If you live where balis are legal you should buy one.

Constitutional carry appears to have failed this year in Texas. However, HB446 passed both House and Senate, legalizing brass knuckles and clubs. As long as Greg Abbot does not veto this bill Texans will be able to carry long guns, all types of cutlery, carry all types of "blunt instruments" most places without a license. You can carry a handgun on your property, place of business, concealed off your body in a vehicle, while engaged in an appropriate sporting activity, or transporting your weapon from the shop, your home. or your place of business without a license. However, you cannot carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license if you don't met the above listed exceptions.

Go figure.

Meanwhile on the Border, the overflow of aliens being dumped in El Paso has gotten so big they are now being sent by bus to Deming and Denver. I'm sure many are good decent people, the vast majority. I'm also sure there are some truly evil people with them who need to be sent back home or even imprisoned.

A.X. Perez Sarcasm

It is legal to walk down the streets of Texas carrying the above gun without a license. It will upset the hysterical types and attract official attention, but it's legal.

It is illegal to carry the pistol below without a license as you walk the streets of Texas.

I feel so secure now.
