Attribute to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

Dear Mr. President, et al:

Whereas, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution clearly states that, “…The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed;” and,

Whereas, in the Twentieth Century, socialists, national socialists, communists, and various other governments—all of which, soon or late, became totalitarian states—disarmed large portions of their citizens, and proceeded to murder them, resulting in excess of 100 million deaths; and,

Whereas, the American progressive left and their enablers in the media have demonstrated that there is no limit to their ability to use fraud, deceit, selective reporting both true and false, and targeted attacks against individuals and groups to obtain and retain political power and advantage;

Therefore, I believe I speak for millions of law-abiding and tradition-respecting American citizens in stating that:

1. There is no support within the community of Second Amendment supporters for new gun laws at either the federal or state level, and indeed a strong belief that there are already too many such laws—including particularly the “gun free zone” laws that unconstitutionally and fraudulently attempt to convey that the absence of defensive firearms creates safety and security;

2. There is no support for “red flag” laws at a time when progressive leftists knowingly create false police reports in efforts to get conservatives arrested—or killed; it would be impossible to prevent leftists from abusing such laws to disarm law abiding conservatives, and it seems impossible within the current judicial system to prosecute leftists for the political fraud behind such actions;

3. The current furor over the upcoming movie, “The Hunt,” about progressive leftists literally hunting conservatives to the death, acknowledges the conservative perception that progressive leftists want their conservative opponents dead. The history cited in the second paragraph of this letter makes it difficult to believe the claim, “It’s only fiction.” But it is at least as believable that the movie is intended to use the claim, “It’s only fiction,” in order to hide the reality of progressive leftist feeling toward their conservative opponents.

4. Finally, the preface to the Second Amendment, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,” acknowledges the Framers’ belief—and intent—that the final defense of the Homeland from invaders, whether foreign or domestic, should rest in the hands of the whole people, trained to arms for their self-defense and the defense of their country. This mission, as Alexander Hamilton clearly stated in the Federalist papers, requires that the citizen have access to the same weapons as the organized military, in order to exercise their function of national defense. The other “gun control laws” proposed by the progressive left are contrary to the clear word of the Constitution and its Framers, and of the understanding of the States who originally ratified it. It is the general feeling among Second Amendment supporters that this is expressly intended to allow for the victimization of the conservative constituency in order to consolidate power in the hands of the liberal elite.

With this in mind, I respectfully ask you to reconsider advocating new laws that would leave people defenseless in their homes and in their Homeland, and which would make us all victims of the actions of the progressive left and the “fake news” media.
