Review: The Adventures of Pluto Nash
by William Stone, III
I'm a huge science fiction fan. This is hard to do in modern times, when
virtually all SF is either boring or nothing more than statist propaganda
wrapped up in science fiction trappings.
Think for a moment about all of the really popular science fiction movies,
TV series, and books of the last couple of decades. Almost without
exception, they have featured the adventures of government functionaries.
Arguably the most popular science fiction franchise of all time, Star
Trek, is entirely about government representatives. What SF that is not
about government functionaries invariably involves the perceived failings
of the free market -- and almost never involves the exploration of outer
space. The moral of the story is simple: the future belongs to government.
What Will Cause the Next Civil War?
by Ron Beatty
Please notice that I do not ask the question; "WILL there be another
Civil War?" To me, it is a foregone conclusion that, barring some
miracle, we will all see another Civil War/2nd American Revolution
in our lifetimes. Why do I say this?
Bill of Rights
by Dennis Kabaczy
As we approach Bill of Rights Day (15 December) we should pause and
reflect on the state of the Republic. Remembering, that if not for
the Bill of Rights, there would not be a united States of America.
(Not a typo, look at the Constitution) The Federal Constitution was
debated and ratified in convention on 25 September 1789. It was
another two years, and much wrangling before enough States agreed,
and then only with the provision for a Bill of Rights.
Ask Before You Give
by Wendy McElroy
This Christmas, domestic violence (DV) shelters across North America are
asking for donations of money, clothing, shampoo, soap and the other
niceties that a suddenly homeless victim of violence needs. I intend
to give generously...but with discretion. The amount I can donate is
limited and many DV shelters promote policies I don't support. These
are the questions I will politely ask.
