"Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand."—T.D. Melrose

Zagmuk Conquers All!
by L. Neil Smith
For the past few years, I have written several essays in response to various conservatives’ false claim that America is a “Christian country”. Rather than reiterate what I said then, I would ask the curious reader to consult with Thomas Paine or Haym Solomon about that, to remember that Thomas Jefferson’s handful of pronouncements on God are clearly metaphorical, and that Benjamin Franklin belonged to an organization whose members dedicated themselves to violating every one of the Ten Commandments.

Crime Fiction within the Academy:
The Creative and Critical Possibilities
Seminar Presentation Given at the University of East Anglia
on the 25th February 2016

by Richard Blake
In trying to make sense of any subject, definitions must come at the beginning, and must be both clear and consistently applied. I therefore define crime fiction as any piece of imaginative writing in which a crime against life or property occurs, and in which there is some chance that the perpetrator will be brought to some kind of justice.

The Norseman’s Diaries: Hell Returns Again
by Jeff Fullerton
Whodah ever thunk it? Like the slug line from the second and subsequent Jaws movies about thinking it was safe to go back into the water; Just when you thought winter might be a thing of the past—it’s back. So much for the latest claims of it being the hottest year on recond. The gates of Hell—as in the frigid variety of Norseman’s fame—unleashed their fury upon Wisconsin a few days ago and it was to be soon to be knocking at my door again as well. Global Warming I wish! We could never be that lucky.

How the NFL Makes My Blood Boil
by Sean Gangol
There has been much controversy about Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers and other football players who are choosing to sit or kneel during the national anthem. Not surprisingly, there are many patriotic Americans who consider this a blatant act of disrespect to this nation and its values. The reason behind these actions has to do with the utter fiction that the Black Lives Matter movement has been peddling about there being some genocidal campaign being waged against black people.

Donald Trump, military dictator (or: Dick Daring, boy reporter)
by Vin Suprynowicz
I’ve been watching presidential elections for 50-some years now (scary as that number sounds.) I don’t ever remember seeing the kind of hand-wringing, brow-furrowing, downright shrieking we’re now experiencing over “the selection of the cabinet.” Part of this, of course, is that Donald Trump ran against the state-socialist media, who assumed they (and the corrupt Republicrat politicians on whose greasy table scraps these tail-waggers dine) couldn’t be beaten because they still “controlled the message” beamed into every American living room at suppertime.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving
by L. Neil Smith
I don’t believe I’ve ever recommended Christmas gifts to my readers before, and given the massive number of hapless morons currently running down the nation’s streets, holding their heads in their hands and doing imitations of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” because Donald Trump <gasp!> has been elected President, this advice is clearly not for everyone.

Golly! Next Sunday is Christmas Day. Generally our practice has been to take off the week of Christmas and in other words, no issue next week. Which means Issue 904 will be out January 1, 2017!

We have been doing this thing here a long time now. And we plan to keep doing it until we simply can not continue. At which point I suppose we will pass it on to a future generation, if any.

Pizzagate. Somebody called “Deplorable Melissa” asked of somebody called “Megyn Kelly” (I don't watch TV’s so-called “news” so I don’t know who these people are... nor do I care to know, ’cause, ya-know, Some Things Man was Not Meant to Know, and stuff.) Where was I? Oh yeah, she asks questions a real journalist (which we have very few of these days) would have asked:

Deplorable Melissa's Questions

This is a screen-shot, reduced to fit this space.
The original thing is here at Twitter.

Or, in case the Tweet goes away, a bigger version we kept here.

This thing should be part of the Draining The Swamp effort.

Now, for a bit of humour in song, Jeff Fullerton sent a link to this here song right here: “If We Had Some Global Warming (In Minnesota)”
