“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

Let’s Jail the Kiddies!
by L. Neil Smith
A long time ago, in a galaxy not that far away, I was an auxiliary or reserve police officer, with a gun, a badge, genuine false arrest insurance, and everything. I signed up for a variety of reasons. The three greatest “authorities” on police work in a future libertarian society were (a) the Head of the Philosophy Department at the University of Southern California, (b) a real estate broker from the San Fernando Valley, and (c) a professor of economics from Brooklyn Polytechnic college.

Anti-Leftism: A Century of Failure
by Sean Gabb
I am currently preparing another book of essays by my late friend Chris R. Tame. He was an accomplished bibliographer, and I have been slowed down in publishing his book by the need to type in hundreds of references scribbled over the hard copy. This has reminded me of the immense body of literature produced on our side between about 1930 and 1990. RAH!
by Sarah A. Hoyt
It is Heinlein’s birthday.  It is also coincidentally my oldest son’s birthday.  It is one of those things that makes me believe I’m living in a novel, as it connects me simultaneously to the past and the future. The man who molded my thought, and the man I helped mold (a little bit.  It will shock all of you that he’s a stubborn cuss, right?) both sharing the same name and born on the same date.  (Though our Robert started the being born thing on the fourth of July, he hung fire till the seventh early morning.  Go figure.  And yeah, I loved the three days hard labor.  Not.)

The Fermi Paradox Resolved
by L. Neil Smith
In 1954, the dashing atomic physicist Enrico Fermi, who constructed the first nuclear reactor, asked a casual question of his buddies over coffee: given what seemed to be the overwhelming likelihood that there are thousands of intelligent species living elsewhere in the galaxy, and there probably had been for millions of years, why hadn’t they dropped in on us before now?
