“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

The Follow-Up
by Vin Suprynowicz
And . . . checking to see how well our prediction fared, one day later, after ALL FIVE Trump-endorsed insurgent Republican candidates won on Tuesday Aug. 7 (even though Kobach in Kansas led by only 180-some votes as the sun rose on the GOP gubernatorial primary, making a recount likely, there) . . . . In races which the AP assured us yesterday “will help determine the political landscape — and Trump’s standing within his own party,” the Associated Press headline as of 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, after Democrats lost and Trump’s candidates won EVERY DAMNED RACE, was . . .

Nihon Ishigame Five Years Later Part One:
The Pursuit of Excellence, Happiness & The Perfect Day Continues

by Jeff Fullerton
Five years. Hard to believe it's been that long already since the arrival of the adult trio of Japanese Pond Turtles in the early spring of 2014. An event that marked a big turnover in my focus as a reptile hobbyist; from native to exotic species to avoid—at least for the time being—the red tape associated with the former. That was explained more in depth in the first article in this thread “Nihon Ishigame: An Outlaw Turtle Enthusiast goes Japanese” and in subsequent articles and I encourage the readership to explore those on their own rather than repeat a lot of that information. It was more or less a decision born of my desire to escape—at least temporarily the regulatory clutches of my state wildlife regulatory agency that I said and still stand by my claim; was insanely prejudiced against the interests and activities of amateur reptile and amphibian hobbyists.

Plastic Politics
by J. Neil Schulman
Earlier today (August 15, 2018) I sent out two tweets intended to cause trouble for my political enemies—totalitarians who want to leave no aspect of human life—even the most trivial—free from their commands.

Why Do You Feel?
by Harding McFadden
Like most things in my life, I can trace my problems with beliefs back to Robert Heinlein. Y’see, when I was just an impressionable kid I started reading RAH’s books, beginning with Starship Troopers. It was, is, and in all likelihood will forever be my favorite book (unless one of my kids writes something, dedicates it to Dear Ol’ Dad, [sorry Bob], and becomes instantly the greatest book ever written).
