Students Defend Their Individual Rights!!!
Announcing: Winners of the second

Two thousand dollars in prizes were announced Saturday, July 4, the awards going to students across America and around the world. The Liberty Round Table, a not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting freedom, sponsors an annual essay competition to encourage and enable students to learn about and stand up for their rights. The topic for 1998 was "Defending my Individual Rights" and first prizes were awarded in the amounts of $750 for the 18-21 age group, $500 for the 13-17 age group, and $150 for the 0-12 age group. Other prizes were announced as well.
The 1998 first place winners are: Jason Mahoney, of Boston, MA (18-21), Krissi Pulliam, of San Jose, CA (13-17), and Rylla Cathryn Smith, of Fort Collins, CO (0-12).
Second place winners are: Josh Mercer, of Hillsdale, MI (18-21), Kimberly Martin, of Louisville, KY (13-17), and Arron Powell, of Memphis, TN (0-12).
"Hobbit Kudos" (and $100) go to Kevin El-Hayek, of Cambridge, MA, for the most humorous entry. Honorable mentions go to: Chris Cathcart, of Spokane, WA (18-21), Alberto Mingardi, of Lecco, Italy (13-17), and Nowlen Cifuentes, of Moreno Valley, CA (0-12).

The Liberty Round Table annual essay contest is an effort to inform and empower young people regarding rights theory and the freedom philosophy. Thanks to the internet, LRT essay contests are open to young people around the world and are part of the LRT's "Green Ribbon Campaign" for individual freedom.
Just as web-masters of sites that oppose censorship on the internet have placed blue ribbons on their web-pages, the Liberty Round Table is urging people everywhere to place a green ribbon on their web-pages, signifying opposition to the trampling of individual rights and freedoms, such as those recognized by the U.S. Bill of Rights.
