EDITORIAL MATTERS:
Recommended reading this week (besides TLE of course!) is "Fuck You, I Won't Do What You Tell Me!" by Mike Wasdin, which you can find at strike-the-root.com/4/wasdin/wasdin14.html
I would have reprinted it here, but they'd rather me link to it. So I did.
Enormous issue this ... er ... issue. Eleven, count 'em, eleven articles, including some new writers, and a return yet again of Kaptain Kanada.
Here in the mountains the weather has turned cold. There was snow up in Show Low on Friday. Time to dig out those thermals that we wear all winter long (we just can't afford to keep the house all that warm, don't you know). So if you've been thinking about showing your appreciation for TLE with a donation of spending money to help keep us online and unfrozen, now would be a good time:

And a big thank you to all our readers, just because!

Why "Liberty" Magazine Isn't
by Alan R. Weiss
As a frequent contributor in energy, effort, time, and money to the Badnarik for President campaign (I also gave a nominating speech for him in Atlanta), I was pretty shocked at how "Liberty" magazine tried to make Badnarik look, at best, like a stooge or idiot and at worst like a fellow-traveler of some neo-nazi.

Socialism Causes Self Destruction (and Insecurity)
by Tracy Saboe
Conservatives are continually telling me that the "if it feels good do it" mentality is what has caused the demise of countless societies and cultures. Indeed, I was chastised by the following remark very recently.

Maybe, Maybe Not: Assorted Thoughts on the Coming Election
by Jonathan David Morris
Believe it or not, I don't know if I'm going to vote this year. It's true. Election Day is November 2nd and I still have no idea what I'm going to do. You would think someone such as myself, who happens to write a column on politics, would have it all figured out by now. But if you thought that, you would be wrong. I'm an undecided voter in a battleground state; I'm everything the candidates like, except for the fact that I don't like the candidates. With the big day coming up strong now, I'm thinking I might stay home.

LFB's Exclusive Interview with Robert J. Ringer
by David M. Brown
Robert Ringer is the author of Action! Nothing Happens Until Something Moves, the latest in a string of popular self-help books that began in the early 1970s with the self-published Winning Through Intimidation. That and Looking Out for #1, another signature self-help guide of the 70s, inaugurated the libertarian studies of a certain editor of Laissez Faire Books. We've decided not to tell Ringer that his Number One Fan was about 11 years old when Winning Through Intimidation was first published.

The Need for Manners
by Manuel Miles, aka Kapt Kanada
Well, it finally happened; something made me angry enough to write another column. Actually, it's an accumulation of years of anger about the lack of manners in 21st Century Canada (and probably the rest of "the Western world" as well). And when a mean, nasty chap like me is inspired to lecture about manners, you know for sure that things have reached a desperate state.

A Comparison of the Presidential Candidates
by Ron Beatty
Looking at the news media, you would think there are only two presidential candidates, Bush and Kerry. Actually, there are dozens, but only three others are major contenders in the election, even though none of them presently have more than a bare mention in many polls. Those other three candidates are Ralph Nader (I), Michael Badnarik (L), and Michael Peroutka (C). Therefore, I will go over these five candidates, and compare them.

Imagine There's No Healing
by Cat Farmer
Suppose free home repair was proclaimed a legal right, like "free" [or "universal"] health care and "free" education. Politicians would dive at the chance to promise gullible voters another perennial boondoggle like "free house care." Under such an outrageous scheme the tyrant's dream of total control over individuals might achieve its desired nightmarish reality. Somewhere, an ambitious bureaucrat is crouching under his toadstool, drafting precisely such a despicable bill... I feel the beastly law slouching toward Washington D.C. to be born, its dreaded hour come 'round at last.

Such A Bother...
by Audie Gaddis
Privacy is inconvenient. If it was otherwise how private could our privacy be? I'm referring to the recent advances in communication technology that ranges from the so called "smart driver's licenses" to implanted medical chips that utilizing bar coding technology reduces identification, health history, etc. to a microchip. Think of it, your life story can now be scanned in the same manner as a jar of peanut butter.

Give Me Some Space

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a NASA nut. In fact, a significant number of people who don't know me know that I'm a NASA nut. But just because I'm a nut doesn't mean I'm crazy!
