Mr. Ed, Kathryn Graham wrote a great article last week on Bill of Rights day. I have no argument with the gist of her essay, but I want to correct a nit. She talks about the abominable Intelligence Reform Bill, which creates a National ID in the form of your state driving license, and repeats the mantra that this bill is 3,000 pages long. I'm not sure who first said the bill runs 3,000 pages, but the evidence I see speaks for it being shorter than that. Thomas, the Library of Congress' web site cataloguing the proceedings of the U.S. government, lists three versions of the bill containing, in their printable PDF versions, 213, 562, and, ominously, 666 pages. I don't know if the one whose page count matches the number of the beast is the version that was passed, but that would certainly be appropriate. Bill St. Clair

Dear Ed, A friend of mine who owns Lightspeed Computers here in Bellaire, Texas (Bellaire is the largest city in Houston) told me once with a perfectly straight face that computers run on smoke.
