Dear Mr. Ed/Editor/Ken, Re.: "An excerpt from the new book Black Rednecks and White Liberals, by Thomas Sowell http://www.ncc-1776.org/tle2005/tle323-20050612-03.html Thomas Sowell is a writer I've pretty much pegged as right-on-target when he writes about a thing. I've had the notion—for quite some time—that most of what forms Southerness, had been a large degree of Scottishness. But, I had no real proof, much beyond the names of the players. Funny that many Blacks have Scottish surnames ... Well, maybe not funny. But certainly interesting. Sowell seems to have sewn-up the matter with his latest. But, having said that? I am dismayed that so many good people from the Isles either allowed themselves to be put down, or were put down—such that their lives were essentially a passing of days. And then again? Maybe they had the right idea: Live life to the fullest, and screw the details! If living a long life means a fair degree of misery, then is it worth it? Sowell doesn't mention the Highland clearances—at least in the excerpt provided. So many good men, women, and children were driven from their homes at the behest of the 'landed' gentry, (in order that they raise sheep), and sent to places outside GB. Most of those were exiled to places in the new world. Modern man seems to be way too involved in second-guessing the creator's work, and appears to be working overtime in the effort to uncover the very essence of what makes it all worthwhile. To wit: Most men and women these days tend to work so many hours to 'make ends meet' that they have lost sight of the 'main idea': Life At some point in the near future, I'll have my last—and best—laugh, when some scientist discovers that the whole idea behind the human genome is understood to read: FUN. So, while Sowell reveals much which I suspected to be true, I wonder if even he understands the entirety of what he has uncovered? The best rapper is a 'White boy' and the best Celtic speaker is a 'Black man,' 'Ebonics' may actually be the essential way to speak the original tongue of the British Isles, and Kwanza can really be celebrated by those Scottish extract! Are we confused, or what?!! Talk about an 'identity' crisis ... Christ! I'm going to have one hell of a good time come this Christmas, that virtually everybody I know will be so confused that they'll try to have me locked up!! It's said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Talk about coming full-circle ... Now, where the hell did I leave my bagpipe .... EJ Totty

Today is Wednesday, June 15th, 2005. Despite all the REAL ID and PATRIOT Act bullshit, I still harbored a faint hope that our government just might get it's act together, and return to the rule of law. Today that hope was dashed, for all time. During a Senate Judiciary hearing, representatives of the Bush Administration, both civilian and military, publicly abrogated their oaths, saying that they were above the law. How did they do this? By saying that those who are labeled as 'enemy combatants' can be held forever, with no charges, no evidence, no legal representation, and no hope of release. In and of itself, this is bad enough. Now, add in Dick Cheney's comments last week that the war is no longer against terrorism, but against 'extremism.' Considering that all of us could be considered 'extremist' for daring to say that this government has lied, terrorized, murdered, tortured and robbed, guess who might be the next 'enemy combatants' to be rounded up? In reality, the 'enemy combatants' are those employees, at any level, of the federal government who support this abomination. The 'enemy combatants' are the agents and operatives who enforce the illegal and unconstitutional directives of someone who has spit all over the constitution he has sworn an oath before god to preserve and protect. No one can tell you what action to take, or how to go about it. I am not a well-educated man, as I've said, so I will use the words of one of the most famous 'extremists' in American history.
