EDITORIAL MATTERS:

What a week. My wife's mom spent most of it in the hospital, and so did we, keeping her company, worrying about her, and all that kind of thing. The week before that we were doing the home nursing thing with her. She's getting better now, doesn't require quite as much attention. The ol' Stress-O-Meter was running high into the red! But we're getting better, too, now.

While sitting around in the hospital, I discovered what Bill Gates can do in his new job as a charity: put some comfortable chairs in every hospital room in America!

And if you are feeling charitable, why not toss a few coins to TLE. Find out how by clicking on this link:

A Modest Proposal
by Jim Davidson
Satire being rarely understood and even more thinly appreciated, it seems best to label up front any such work. Just as Jonathan Swift, by the evaluation of methods he dismissed as unworkable, promoted the cause of starving infants and impoverished adults through his satirical consideration of eating their offspring, so, too, I would hope to provide for some benefits in my own proposal.

Cleaning House
by Lady Liberty
I'm in the midst of a very busy weekend. My schedule is jam-packed with all of the usual weekend errands—banking, grocery shopping, going to the post office—and many of the usual chores. In the midst of preparing for some upcoming events, I'm also rushing to clean my house. I have to do that this weekend because the maid is coming mid-week.

Calling All Government Workers,
Please Help Us Save the Republic by QUITTING Today

by Gerald Montgomery
On May 19th, I did the best thing I could do for the people of America right now: I quit my $42K a year government job. I contacted the Social Security Administration and told them I want to FORFEIT my benefits. Unconditionally. Period. And I will not complete a 20 year tour of service with the U.S. Army National Guard so I'm slamming the door on that government check as well.

Immigration & Tribalism
by Paul Bonneau
If you are like me, you are a bit bewildered, perhaps shocked, at the division immigration has created among libertarians. The arguments used on both sides of this divide are also disturbing.

The Baby Shiloh: Chosen By God To Stop Global Warming
by Jonathan David Morris
Former beard wearer and popular vote winner Al Gore has a new movie out this month called An Inconvenient Truth. In it, he makes the case that humans have but ten years to reverse course and stave off the horrors of global warming. Assuming this thesis is anywhere near true—and what the hell, let's just say it is—I can still think of at least three reasons why Iron Al's movie might not make a difference:
