THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE Number 404, February 4, 2007 "Bush and his creepy friends." Doomed to Repeat It
Attribute to The Libertarian Enterprise Bear with me. I've just read a review of a book of essays written by a man who called himself "libertarian" for more than a quarter of a century, and yet, when the towers fell and Bush said, "Let's roll!", elected, along with a small handful of his oldest, closest friends, to "roll" with him. But now, six years later, nearly everything about Bush and his regime has been exposed as fraudulent and evil. Or simply insane and disgusting. It becomes clearer every day that the illegal invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan had nothing to do with the nightmarish events of September 11, 2001, but instead were about keeping the whole world hooked on a single source of energy controlled by Bush and his creepy friends. Today, more and more individuals understand that the true historic significance of September 11, 2001 is that it afforded Bush and his fellow fratboys an excuseexactly as the suspiciously convenient Reichstag Fire did for Adolf Hitler and the Nazisto do absolutely anything they want to: make their perceived enemies disappear without due process of law; torture helpless prisoners; chill their opposition into silence; generally finish off the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Today we are compelled to live in a young, clumsy dictatorship that strives to observe and control every move we make, while at the same time (talk about a dangerously unstable situation), a majority of Americansreportedly 60 percentno longer believes the official establishment story of what happened on September 11, 2001. I can't avoid interpreting that to mean that they either think Bush and his orcs knew the attack was coming and allowed it to happen to advance their political agenda, or that Bush and his orcs actually made it happen. After all, in this age of TV, everybody knows what the controlled demolition of a building looks likealthough many want to persuade us not to believe what we have seen for ourselvesand what it doesn't. But, as always, I have digressed. This was supposed to have been about a self-labelled libertarian and his buddies who let themselves get stampeded into abetting George Bush's nazification of America, but who nowwith a mere 180 million Americans to blaze the trail before themhave finally, courageously, "seen the light" and begun to recant. You can probably anticipate my problem already. I still can't decide whether to mention this guy's name or the book he's peddling. I ought to be delighted, I know. I ought to welcome this clown and his red-nosed, baggy-pantsed friends back into the libertarian movement with open arms and a freshly-slaughtered fatted cliche. I ought to rejoice to the heavens above that the truth has set them all free at last. But what I felt instead, as I read the review, was pissed. My trouble, you'll understand, is that I managed somehow (I'm certainly no psychic) to guess the score the instant I saw the second airliner hit the tower. Believe me, it wasn't hard. It was as obvious and unsubtle as a ball peen hammer applied enthusiastically to a big toe. Partly it's because of that suspicious convenience I mentioned in connection with Hitler's Reichstag Fire. The Cold War was over. Many folks believed that meant we could finally afford to reduce the size, power, and civilization-crippling expense of a government that had swollen up like a blowfish during World War II and never shrunk back down. Partly it's because I understood that there are absolutely no limits to what government will do to keep ahold of its subjects. If all individual behavior is ultimately about sex, all group behavior is about eating. What a government consumes is its Productive Class. Lincoln murdered six hundred thousand. Hitler murdered thirteen million. Stalin murdered at least twenty million. Mao murdered fifty million. Operation Keelhaul, Ruby Ridge, WacoDiego Garcia, if I'd known about it thendemonstrated (if the War on Southern Independence hadn't been enough evidence already) that government in America isn't any different from government anywhere else. It is, after all, a gang of dullards, lunatics, and thugs who will put poison in rubbing alcohol, rather than let people have a drink without paying taxes on it. It is a collection of butchers, maniacs, and retards who happily starved half a million Iraqi children to death merely to "project power". Those in the governmentand the corporations fastened on its teatscould not allow the "peace dividend" that would otherwise flow from an end to the Cold War. They had to find a new enemy to scare their taxpaying serfs with and keep them in line. The War on Drugs hadn't worked out for them, the standoff with Saddam Hussein was making them look worse every day, and the Internet was exposing more and more of their lies, more and more of their repulsive habits, more and more of their crimes to a public that was increasingly fed up with them. Something had to be donesomething that would look a lot like Pearl Harbor, a disaster that Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill had neatly arranged by systematically provoking Japan into war. Look up Operation Intrepid. But enough of that. Anybody who knew anything of history and human nature could easily smell the foul odor of manure rising from the Bush Administration's policies and practices. This scam apparently started several thousand years agoarchaeologists have just discovered what they believe is the site of the first large-scale war, something like four thousand years oldand it will keep going on as long as we let ourselves be lied to (and we persuade ourselves to believe the lie) or some government finally builds a toy that can crack the planet in half. The last election certainly changed nothing, and the 2008 electionif it's allowed to happen at allwon't change anything, either. The Democrats desire power above all things just like the Republicans, and they have no fewer corporate patrons to take care of. There is a way out of this, and I will write and speak of it more in the near future. But this so-called libertarian essayist makes me wonder if it's worth all the effort. The man changed sides and then he changed sides again, spewing excuses, rationalizations, and justifications at every corner. And sadly, he is far, far from alone. Such ... let's call it "flexibility" makes me feel very discouraged about the future of my species. I'm not an unforgiving individual, noras I'm sure thousands will line up around several city blocks to inform youhave I never made a mistake of my own. But I'm not a gullible idiot, either. No matter what this former ally does or says now, I'll certainly never be able to trust him again, or call him friend, as I was once proud to do. What a waste. What a fucking waste.
