THE CURRENT ISSUE

EDITORIAL MATTERS:

It's that wonderful time of year: when night-time temps get down into the teens or even single-digits (Fahrenheit of course). Gives me them ol' time shivers, don't you know. And for the last several days it hasn't even managed to get up over freezing even with the sun shining! Ah, life in the mountains, what a wonderful life!

This issue begins our "Reader Reviews of Roswell, Texas" series. If you are a Reader, why not write one yourself? If you haven't yet read it, get yourself right away to bigheadpress.com/roswell and enjoy! Read Mr. Smith's invitation in last issue as well.

And now for the mandatory mention that as a Reader Supported online magazine, we'd be happy and proud if you, Dear Reader, could lend a bit of financial support. It's easy, it's fun, it helps! See:

And Thank You to those who already have, who do, who will!

Well, I just got a phone call from Texas. My 87-year-old mom fell and broke her arm/elbow today. Doing surgery tomorrow morning to put it back together. I'll tell you, this 2008 thing hasn't been getting off to a very good start where I live. "And so it goes...."

Other than that, welcome to issue 452!

Who Wills the End, Wills the Means
by John Markley
One of the more contentious disagreements among libertarians is over the issue of immigration. This has been intensified by the candidacy of Ron Paul, who advocates strict restrictions on immigration while the welfare state is still in place, and who supports the idea of building a fence along the Mexican border. Calls for stricter measures to keep out illegals are growing.

The Tyrant(s) Americans Should Fear
by Daniel G. Jennings
The tyrant or tyrants should fear is not President George W. Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney or whatever Republicratic duo takes their place in 2009 but the hundreds, thousands and perhaps millions of little tyrants in our government.

Review of Roswell, Texas

Roswell, Texas, the webcomic about an alternate-universe Roswell incident, has recently concluded. I enjoyed Roswell, Texas a ton, and I will miss it.

Roswell, Texas
by Kent McManigal
I have been interested in the Roswell, New Mexico UFO story since I first heard about it in the early 1970s while living in Waco, Texas (not in the mid-80s when some people try to say the story really started). Since I began life on Earth in the region of Roswell, New Mexico, it made more of an impression with me than it might have otherwise. Not to start any rumors, but it might explain some things....

Review of Roswell, Texas
by A.X. Perez
I first got turned on to L. Neil Smith's work around 1989-1990. I was telling an acquaintance at work about H. Beam Piper's A Planet for Texans (Republished by Ace in the late seventies as Lonestar Planet). My buddy returned the favor by saying that if I enjoyed that book I should read The Probability Broach. I happened to know a vendor who had a copy (used of course by that date) and went to his shop straight after work.
