Another Letter from A.X. Perez Yet Another Letter from A.X. Perez I've noticed over the years that gun turn ins for prizes and cash are quite fashionable among gun control supporters. These are no question asked deals. I've also been given to understand that in most states people are required to register guns making it possible to determine if a stolen weapon is being turned in. Plan A: file a complaint of suborning theft against the sponsors of turn ins. Argue that by accepting guns without verifying that the person turning them in is their lawful owner the sponsors and participating PD's are encouraging people to steal guns. Last time I heard inciting a criminal act isn't protected under the First Amendment. Secondly, I've heard of at least one case where a spouse turned in a weapon without the owner's permission. Technically that constitutes theft, and giving cash or other prizes for it constitutes receiving stolen goods. All the owner has to do is file a complaint against the person actually trading the weapon for a prize and if I understand right the police have to go through the trouble of making an arrest, even if the recipient is held harmless and charges are dismissed immediately. Addiction Back on the 24th of June 1992 at 6:45 pm I quit smoking cigarettes. I had an excellent reason to stop smoking cigarettes, it wasn't fun anymore. I continued to smoke cigars and pipes until November of '93, quit for health reasons, and restarted smoking a bowl of tobacco or stogie about once a sabbat back in '04. I admit I've also had a couple of cigarettes when drunk in 2008. I had a nicotine fit continuously from the 25th of June 1992 until sometime in 1995 and to this day I'm not sure if the withdrawal symptoms went away or if I just got used to them. Smoking my pipes and cigars just didn't satisfy the urge for a cigarette. The astute reader may be asking "This matters to me because?" All anyone has to do to get rid of a nicotine fit is light up a coffin nail. If your problem is having a nic fit you have two solutions, ride it out until the need clears your system or have a cigarette. If you don't take up smoking you don't get nicotine fits. Sometimes you have to ask "Which problems that government is expected to solve are problems created by the existence of government?" Maybe it's time to accept the idea that too often government is the solution to the problem the way cigarettes are the solution to having nicotine fits. Analogies are suspect (to quote many better writers), but we should watch out for government junkies and help them in their effort to quit. Or at least help them tough out the temptation as long as possible. Got a light, buddy? A.X. Perez

[The Brownells catalog is one of my favorite browsing-books—Editor] Hypocrisy I found it interesting to note that MALDEF was participating in the effort to sue an Arizona rancher over how he treated trespassers who happened to be illegal aliens (see last weeks TLE) . Defending and reasserting property rights of American citizens of Mexican decent from various crooks who happen to be Anglo has been an issue since the Mexican American War. It seems to me that trashing Anglo property rights is a good way to trash Chicano, Asian, Tribal and even Black property rights. Given the Reyes Tijerina case of 1967 it seems that property rights are of value to MALDEF and other Chicano advocacy groups. Interestingly, I've never met a Sixties era "Chicano Power" radical who was not a staunch practitioner of the right to keep and bear arms. Any who now advocate gun control (except as a call to practice enough to maintain shooting skills) is a hypocrite. Perhaps the question is whether they are lying when they claim to protect Latino property rights or if they prevaricate when they act to Socialistically erase everyone else's. Or maybe it's time that MALDEF and other so called advocacy groups get it through their heads that gun, free speech, and property rights belong to everybody or nobody.It's definitely past time to call them on their ultimate agenda. before their pursuit of socialism destroys the credibility of anyone resisting racism." To The Editor: Things are crazy and getting crazier all the time. What do the state governments want to do in these depressed times? RAISE TAXES! People are already hurting—they've either lost their jobs outright or else have had their hours cut way back, so how in God's name are they going to pay these tax hikes!? I think since the state governments can't print their own money, their only option is to suck as much of it as they can out of those of the residents who still have income! And now with the "stimulus" package law, health care will be "rationed"—i.e. DENIED—to us old farts, the 'weeds', the 'useless eaters.' Oh yes—the attorney general wants a total gun ban—so it'll be safer for the einsazgruppen to go around and kill us "useless eaters"! Glenn Beck is talking about "are we willing to live through great pain and suffering, are we wiling to lose everything, to save the future for our children?" He sounds like Obama when he talks about how "the worst is yet to come." as full of it as the liberals. But maybe he's right. The nation is in deep trouble, and getting deeper. Only God Himself can bail us out! In the meantime, should we get ready to lock and load? I am starting to think so! Marc V. Ridenour
Bait Today (Tuesday 17 February 2009) President Obama is supposed to sign the final version of the incentive package. If it really is necessary (ten minutes rolling on floor from laughter) I hope it succeeds. Even more fervently I hope that the programs involved are ended as soon as they finish their job or as soon as it becomes evident they are in fact not working. Meanwhile, some interesting tidbits. BO and company are already coming out and saying the present ES may not be enough and other actions may be needed. People are beginning to bandy about the idea that it may be necessary to nationalize some of the worse troubled banks. Like the readers of this publication didn't see that one coming Most ominously, it appears the stimulus package includes ten million dollars to be used blocking the smuggling of guns from the US to the drug gangs in Mexico. These gangs have decided to expand their activities to kidnapping for ransom and protection racketeering to include threatening the murder of children if the public schools they are attending don't pay. They have definitely crossed the line of defending rights to violating rights. Denying them weapons is an understandable strategy. However, a reasonable person might be concerned that efforts in the US to prevent arming criminals in Mexico would more likely militate to disarming honest Mexican citizens, thus denying them ability to protect themselves from criminal assault and abuse of power by government agents or the government as an institution. Untrusting Americans living near the border might become concerned about the possibility of this being used as an excuse to violate their God given to keep and bear arms in spite of state and Federal Constitutional guarantees. A bunch of our fellow Americans have convinced themselves that the economic stimulus is necessary, enough to make it public policy. It will take a great deal of vigilance to reduce the threat to freedom this policy creates. A.X. Perez

Yo, Bob— As Tonto asked the Lone Ranger, "What do you mean 'we', paleface?" I don't want "single payer" health care and I don't know anyone I respect who does. Let's make a better start by calling it by its right name: compulsory, collectivist, going-through-the-motions medicine. I've seen how it "works" in other countries, thanks. The only people who want it are stupid, evil, or insane, which is why you lefties are having to force it on the nation at bayonet-point. How about a Constitutional amendment formally separating science—especially medicine—and state, instead? I triple-dog dare ya. L. Neil Smith
