What I Believe

video, or in person. All of these ways of learning about and understanding the
beauty which is someone else's mind, person, spirit, soul, are great. But of

Give Up Already!

I recently had a discussion with a friend of mine about the
2008 presidential campaign of Ron Paul. As an anarchist, I am on principle
opposed to the idea of achieving freedom through the enslavement of others.
However, for the purpose of the argument, I am willing to grant the premise
that Ron Paul is the most moral, most wise, and most freedom loving politician
in human history. I am even willing to accept the position of some of his
followers, some of whom I feel edge dangerously close to worshipers, that
Ron Paul is the philosopher-king that this country needs to be truly free
of the oppression and tyranny under which we have toiled for all of our lives.

The public debate on the health care "reform" bill being
considered in Congress seems to focus largely on the bogus concept of the
"common good." (I will dispense with the quotation marks after this, but we
know the bill's intent is to radically change the health care system, not
reform it. And, since it is impossible to get 100% agreement on any policy,
having some members of government agree upon and enforce a policy on the
basis that it serves the common good will disadvantage large numbers of
people, whether by the policy effects or by being forced to pay for the
policy itself.)

Can the Republicans be Saved?

Ever since the Republicans have lost the presidency and both
halls of congress, some members believe that the party needs to revise some of
its strategies. Some of these revisions include the party's stance on issues,
such as abortion and gay rights. They believe that their party's original stance
on these issues have alienated some of the moderate members of the party. By
easing up on these issues they believe that it is the best way to keep the
moderates from leaving the party. If these changes are implemented then it
would certainly be a good start for the Republican Party. Still, the party
has a long way to go in restoring the confidence of the people.

Roman writer and satirist (AD 55-127). He was describing the Roman citizens'
