Protection Implies Submission

budding state promises us is protection, and virtually everybody is a sucker
for that appeal. Many libertarians even fall for it, claiming that a legitimate
role of government is protecting our rights, or protecting us from mala in
se criminal action. They don't understand, for some reason, that protection
requires one's submission; and the state is sure to keep that under wraps.

Sit Still Right There and Don't You Dare Play

with blocks, which I remembering enjoying, one is launching one of those blocks
across the room and hitting a kid in the head and making him cry, and another is
lying on a mat and being restless and bored and then getting whacked by our
spinster teacher (who clearly, sadistically enjoyed it) with a pointer for not
going to sleep while lying on our mats.

Ship of Fools

I received an email this week from a group which organizes
protests against certain big government initiatives, and the subject line read,
"Tell Congress: You're Not Fooling Us." I thought this was interesting, because
it seemed to imply that by sending emails, letters, or phone calls to Congress
you could somehow affect their position on any particular issue. The irony of
this concept, from my perspective, is that if you really think that anything you
have to say can influence the actions of the state, then they are fooling
you.

The Wilson/Smith Big Announcement

despite political differences I have no control over, actually sets the standard
for such endeavors and has been quite successful at it in what is arguably a niche

object strenuously to the method you have chosen.
