Let a candid world choose between us
Attribute to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise Back when Thomas Jefferson stated "when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." He then proceeded to describe the long train. So, what might Thomas Jefferson list about our current government? Some charges are listed against the Congress, others against the bureaucracy and President, some current others past. Some may be aimed at a mixture of these. They have passed legislation intended to overturn God given rights assured by this Nation's Constitution, the right to exist of this government dependent on respecting of these rights. They have surrendered powers given them by this Nation's Constitution to the Executive to avoid taking responsibility for the consequences of exercising these powers. They have made over a third of our populace dependent on the government for custom and employment, and many others dependent on the government as pensioners. They have failed to establish a budget for the management of the nation's business in a timely manner. They have created debt that will enslave our posterity for generations to come. The bureaucracy has arrogated powers that properly belong to the legislature and courts. Often they have passed regulations exceeding or even contradicting the will of Congress. They have falsified evidence to obtain convictions, to extort people into becoming informants, to obtain assistance from the military in making false arrests, to justify the passage of regulations and to convince Congress to pass laws restricting the rights of the people. They falsify evidence to seize property of persons, often without convicting these persons of any crime. They have armed criminals murdering people in a friendly nation, threatening the survival of a friendly government, for the purpose of attempting to gain support for legislation and regulation restricting and violating the right of Americans to arm themselves. The President has waged war against a nation which has not committed an act of aggression against the United states or its citizens in several years. He has gone this without a declaration of war or even the permission or approval of Congress. To be fair, the people of this nation have not protested these actions with appropriate vigor. It is time that this protest begin and that is the purpose of this missive. Was that worth reading? Then why not:
