Special to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise

You know that your friends are arrested. Often they are arrested for victimless crimes, like walking near the interstate highway in Illinois, or owning some plants. Sometimes they are convicted.

And you want to know why. When I tell you that it is a giant scam to get money from you, from your friends, and from others, you won't believe me. You will want to not believe me. So my purpose here is to inform you in as thoroughly a documented fashion as possible.

Have you ever received a collect call from jail? Any idea how much that cost you? The connection charge can be $3 to $6 and each minute of the call can be $1.85 more. Of course much of that money goes to a private telephone company, a government contractor like Paytel or by the department of corrections in the relevant state or county. Of course you can get a monthly bill of $16 in order to get "cheap" collect calls from inmates. Which is an even bigger scam for the phone company. And, of course, that phone company operates a "concession" and pays fees and possibly a piece of the action to the state government.

From: http://zev.lacounty.gov/news/public-safety/jail-phone-contract-numbers-please

"The contract brings in about $30 million a year. The company keeps 48 percent while paying 52 percent to the Sheriff's Department"

Here is a chart about how much it costs you to accept a collect call from jail, depending on certain circumstances.

Now that your friend has called you from jail, at considerable cost to you, what next? Of course you rush to bail out your friend. Frequently, through no fault of yours, nor of your friend's, the bail funds are forfeit. Or they are paid by a bail bond company which has a cosy arrangement with the corrections system, taking about 12% from you (which you cannot ever get back) and posting the bail. If the bail bondsman doesn't get their bail money returned due to failure to appear, they hire a bounty hunter to hunt down the accused. And they may proceed against other assets, such as your home or car, if you had to post collateral to get the bail bond. Best of all for the bail bond company, when the bail is returned by the court, they don't have to pay you back for your part.

Having gotten your friend out of the clink, your next move is to put together funds to find them a lawyer. Yeah, the bar association is in on this scam, too. They want lots of crimes so there are lots of criminals. So lots of lawyers run for public office so they can make city ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws to make all kinds of things illegal. Yes, lawyers hate humanity and want to put your friends in cages.

But, it gets worse. If your friend is convicted, everything he owns is subject to civil asset forfeiture. The state steals everything they can. And the USA supreme court loves the idea. Over a decade ago, in a case of a Michigan woman whose estranged husband took her car without her permission and used it to pick up a prostitute, the car was forfeit for having been used "in the commission of a crime." And the USA supreme court loved the idea, praised everyone, and upheld the seizure. After all, the Supremes wear black robes because they are, at heart, pirates.

The pigs have drunk driving (DUI or driving under the influence) checkpoints in many states. Texas kind of doesn't have them, but does have mandatory blood draws. The pigs use these DUI check points to steal cars, the contents of cars, and everything they can find.

And if your friend is convicted, the Corrections Corporation of America or another giant prison industry company gets $50 to $75 per day for keeping that person in a cage for a term of years. And guess who are major investors in Corrections Corpse? The police pension funds in major cities.

Also, UNICORP will "hire" your friend for about 27 cents an hour and charge his time to the government for about $25 per hour to do things like outfitting vehicles for the border patrol.

So, of course the police want to put your friends in jail. So of course the mass murderer, Barack Obama, has gone back on his promise to desist from medical marijuana arrests. The DEA and the local law enforcement agencies like their loot too much.

Raping and pillaging your friends and neighbours is big business for the people who run the government.

Free the slaves. Stop the wars. That should end the state. And if it doesn't, finish the job, this time.
