Special to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise

Founded in July 2009, the Individual Sovereign University now has, or is forming, the following seven business or operational units.

IndSovU College—the actual courses, faculty, and teaching operation of the university are embodied in the college. We have ambition to develop additional schools of activity under the overall aegis of the college, including schools of law, humanities, engineering, science, and graduate schools in various disciplines. Currently this area of activity is led by Harry Felker, dean of faculty.

IndSovU Facilities—the main operational element of our university right now is our web site, currently hosted at IndSovU.com. We are currently planing campus facilities for Indiana, Montana, the Kansas City area, and Florida. More campuses, anywhere in the world would be welcome. We are currently seeking a team leader for facilities development and operations. Currently the team leader for web site development and operations is the incomparable Diana Culda.

IndSovU Research—colleges teach, universities teach and perform original research. Many of our faculty are engaged in active research projects. We are currently seeking a team leader for research.

IndSovU Press—the university operates its own publishing house. Individual Sovereign University Press is currently responsible for the publication of two paper books "Being Sovereign" by Jim Davidson and "Fuck the State" by Harry Felker. We are considering a number of other books for possible publication. We recently asked Dustin David Pickering to help us with this activity.

IndSovU Consulting—the university provides consulting services to hedge funds, investors, and other companies. We are currently looking for a team leader for consulting services.

IndSovU Merchandise—university merchandise is currently available on our web site and through CafePress.com/bostontee We are seeking a team leader for merchandise. It would be logical to ask our dean of marketing, Stacy Litz, to take on this important work for the university and build a network of volunteers and commissioned sales persons to get our merchandise pimped all over the world.

IndSovU Association—the university recently began a university association, sometimes now known as Sovereign Mutual Aid Response Team. We are asking our dean of community relations, Shaun Lee, to take the lead with this activity.

So, here's the mathematics. We have a reasonably attentive audience of about 25,000 people, many of them here on Facebook, some reading L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise, and some following in other venues. If you doubt me, go through the tagged persons, add up their friends. (I didn't tag everyone because Failbook stops at 30. The total of those tagged is 48,302.) Figure 20% duplication. (Leaves 38,641.) Figure 35% of the remainder aren't listening. (Leaves 25,116.) Figure that I could add in another 100 persons, and use any sort of calculations you like on their friends lists.

Next, figure we have a great sales team (Shaun Lee, John Bush, Aden V. Freedman) and great materials for that great list, so we get 1% first time participation against 25,000 actually paying much attention. Average of $200 a year. So about $50,000 from the first marketing effort.

We pour 10% of that into advertising and publicity, especially to freedom-oriented publications and outlets. Also figure Google ads on key words.

Figure that there were one million Libertarian Party votes cast and counted in November 2010 and twice that number not voting. So that freedom-oriented number is about 3 million. Push hard for six months to a year and get 1% of them. Average purchase of $200 a year, call it $6 million.

Overall there are about 30 million in the under class who have ever been convicted of a felony such as possession, distribution, etc. Figure these are an audience for the association's services. Again, figure on reaching 1% of them. Same average purchase. Call it $60 million.

Which puts a lot of bail money in the system without bail bondsmen, and puts a great many lawyers on our team. It also funds some campuses, some places to grow food, and some networking activities (events, festivals, online activities). It also potentially funds some scholarships and fellowships and research grants.

None of this figuring assumes any money from suing the pants of city, county, state, and national governments, individual reprobates in government, etc. Since we'll be engaged in a good bit of that work, there should be some positive settlement outcomes.

All of which to say: this could probably work.

We have recently added a "Membership Recruiting Contractor Agreement" to my Facebook profile, which is to be added soon to our web site. We invite you to not only join the membership association, but also to become a recruiter and earn fees for signing up others.

Jim Davidson is an author, entrepreneur, and anti-war activist. His 1990 venture to offer a sweepstakes trip into space was destroyed by government action as was his free port and prospective space port in Somalia in 2001. His 2002-2007 venture in free market money and private stock exchange was destroyed by government action in 2007. He's going to Mars if he has to walk. His second book, Being Sovereign is now availble from Lulu and Amazon. He is currently working on a book about travel to Mars with John Wayne Smith, a book with international fugitive Chad Z. Hower on his story, a book on sovereign self-defence, and a book compiling his letters and essays in The Libertarian Enterprise from 1995 to 2010. Contact him at indomitus.net or indsovu.com.
