Angry White Male
by L. Neil Smith
We are living in a bizarre historical period—the "Crazy Years",
Robert Heinlein called them—when those who imagine themselves to be in some kind of
authority or another, also imagine that they can tell us what emotions are appropriate
to any particular circumstance or occasion.

Breach of Trust and Bill of Rights Enforcement
by Terence James Mason
A couple of years ago, I started working in earnest on a novel
about how everything would eventually be made "all right," though we would
go through hell as a country first. I've been playing with this plot ever since my
graduate school days, and while nobody in the novel falls through a "probability
breech," my own trip through one weighed heavily on that early planning.

I Don't Live in America Anymore
by Janet Oliver
I don't lose sleep, not because of Obama, anyway, but I am slowly
going insane. I have made up my mind that I don't live in America anymore. In my mind,
I live in a state of bliss that was mine when I was a child on my grandparents' farm
in South Carolina. I had the freedom to roam the pastures, to play in the barn, to go
fishing at the pond and sit under the shade of the willow tree, to eat my grandmother's
biscuits and country ham for breakfast, to sit with my grandfather and peel peaches,
shuck corn, or snap beans. I also had a horse. I would sneak out of the house and put
a rope from a bale of hay around her neck and ride her out in the fields. I always
got in trouble for this (I was only about 6 years old) but the scoldings I received
were nothing compared to the sheer joy of being alive and free to explore that world.

Does The Left Have An Agenda? Oh Yeah, You Betcha!
by C. Jeffery Small
Throughout my life I have listened to the musings of people
speculating on the actual intentions of those who align themselves with the philosophy
of the progressive left. Many good-hearted people who always search to find only the
best in others would look at the disastrous results being achieved by various wealth
redistribution schemes, corporate bailouts, regulatory boondoggles, failed educational
initiatives and programs based upon moral relativism, egalitarianism and altruism, and
offer one excuse after another in an attempt to justify that, in spite of all the harmful
consequences, the aim of these people was nevertheless still noble and well-meant. But was it?

Do it Better than Superman on Citizenship
by Wendy McElroy
How do you know when the content of a nation's character is bankrupt?
One way is to examine the dynamic symbols that embody its character and which shift in
reaction to circumstance. These symbols are often found within literature and other
cultural expressions.
