Some people have started talking about the analogy between trampling the second amendment and similar trampling on the first.

Here's one way to look at it: "It's perfectly constitutional to have a limited ban on books. No one really needs to have a book bigger than 300 pages."

In an e-mail advertisement today, you said: "The irresponsible arms trade fuels serious human rights abuses, armed violence, poverty and conflict around the world.

"Next week, world leaders will gather at the U.N. to negotiate an international Arms Trade Treaty to establish global arms trade controls to keep weapons out of the hands of war criminals and human rights abusers.

"Tell President Obama: we need a strong Arms Trade Treaty now."

Mr.Fertig, what you are saying in your advertising is anseries of lies. I know it and furthermore, you know it. The inescapable fact is that, as Robert Heinlein told us, "An armed society is a polite society", whereas an unarmed society is no more than a collection of slaves.

Or groceries. As a lifelong advocate of the right to own and carry weapons, I

consider as good as sacred, my duty to make sure that every individual in America who wants a gun has one -- and to do my best to make sure that every individual in America wants one.

No treaty or legislation can override the unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right of every man, woman, and responsible child to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon -- rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything -- any time, any place, without asking anyone's permission.

That is how we rid ourselves of "war criminals and human rights abusers", not by rendering ourselves helpless before them. This fact is obvious to all those who, unlike that gaggle of mobsters and leeches called the United Nations, are not secret supporters of the very dregs and predators they pretend to be against.

President of the US is not a fan of Firefly

Apparently the President of the US is not a fan of Firefly. Ask the people on the receiving end of a drone.

Here's the deal. I have no trouble with the idea that there are people who are at war with the United States. I have no problem that the President is the Commander in Chief of US Military forces and sets the goals and grand strategy of prosecuting this war and that the enemy are the bad guys. I even understand that innocents are going to get caught in the crossfire.

However, there is supposed to be a deliberate effort to avoid collateral damage, and I do not get the impression Mr. Obama is after his subordinates to make it. There is a difference between prosecuting war and prosecuting criminals, and for the last 11 years or more this administration and many in the last have disregarded this. And finally, there is a huge difference betwwn prosecuting a qar and persecuting dissidents and other political opponent, one Mr. Obama's supporters keeping pushing him to cross.

Mr. Obama could establish himself as a great President and one not too hated by free people by showing he understands these differences. Sadly, I don't think he's going to do it.
