I Told You So—Again
by L. Neil Smith
Two or three decades ago, in a treatise on the social politics of
cigarette smoking that I remember writing very clearly—but can no longer find in my
archives—I observed that there are three kinds of individuals. First, there are
smokers, among whom I numbered myself for thirty years. Among the War on Pleasure's
countless victims, they have been made by the media, politicians, and pressure
groups—as well as by their brainwashed neighbors, co-workers, families, and
friends—to feel guilty about everything that they think, and feel, and say, and
do—and most of all, enjoy. They have been the subjects of more vicious bigotry
than European Jews during the Black Plague. Everything you think you know, for
example, about "secondhand smoke" is an outright, deliberate lie, propagated at
the order of the George H.W. Bush Administration.

Paleoism and the Traditional Britain Group
by Keir Martland
In January 1990, Lew Rockwell wrote in the magazine "Liberty"
on "The Case for Paleolibertarianism". In this manifesto, he argued that while
libertarians are often correct in their criticisms of conservatives, conservatives
are often right in their criticisms of libertarians. He cites people like Russell Kirk
and Robert Nisbet, with the latter claiming that libertarians were drifting so far
from conservatism that they were coming to view the "coercions of the family, church,
local community and school" as almost as corrosive of liberty as that of the state.

The Holistic Bill of Rights
by J. Neil Schulman
An Agorist is a latter-day American Revolutionary who declares the
government breaching the Bill of Rights nullifies the Constitution. Harvey Weinstein
and Greg Gutfeld are equally opposed to the Bill of Rights. It's just that one can't
count to 2 and the other to 4. I don't use a monolithic talking-points approach in my
defense of freedom. My old mentor, Samuel Edward Konkin III, taught me that since all
opponents of liberty pretend to be in favor of a holistic liberty—then either betray
it from the right-wing or left-wing—the rhetorical technique is to come at them from
their own ideological window and show them the contradictions to their own premises.

Making Life "Brutish, Nasty, and Short"?
by A.X. Perez
Proponents of gun control and other violations of liberty
(indiscriminate phone monitoring, police militarization, and so on) justify
their actions as necessary to control crime. It is worth noting that both so
called conservatives and so called liberals are guilty of this. I mention this
as a reminder that at best any alliance between libertarians and either of
these groups is a matter of political convenience not a bond of eternal
friendship. A commitment to a single dance, not a commitment to hold hands
in the moolight, swap spit, and spend a large chunk of eternity gazing
longingly into each others' eyes (Apologies to the script writers of No Mercy).

Fracking and Foreign Rat-Fucking
by Richard Bartucci
In The Libertarian Enterprise Number 754 (January 19, 2014),
publisher L. Neil Smith posted: Just heard the charge made on the radio that
the political opposition to "fracking" is being financed by "somebody in the
middle east". Anybody know anything about this? In response, while I admit
that I've heard a few rumors about money from the Sandbox going to fund various
"Watermelon" pressure groups and leftard politicians wailing and legislating
against deep-shale dirigible drilling, fractional casing perforation, and hydraulic
fracturing ("fracking") as a means of extracting methane—"natural gas"—and
liquid crude petroleum from the bearing strata at levels far below those economically
exploitable prior to the combination of these technologies developed over the past
twenty years or so, I had read a great deal more about such hostile influence being
exerted by the officers of Gazprom, the allegedly private-sector corporation that
had simply subsumed the Soviet Imperial natural gas production industry in 1989 as
a functional monopoly still largely owned directly by the Russian government.

Policification of Fire Departments and EMS
by Joe Collins
I have been involved in EMS and fire for almost fifteen years as a
volunteer EMT, paramedic and as a volunteer fire fighter. I worked for almost eight
years in the downtown area of a metropolitan area that has been declining economically
and socially for the last twenty years. I probably have another five years in this
business before I find some other way to make a living. Currently, it's a calling for
me, not just a job. I like being able to occasionally help the sick, injured, frightened
and dying despite the hours, working conditions, crummy pay and lack of respect by
everyone who deals with us. I have two college degrees and could make a decent living
with a little work, but I still get up in the morning with the expectation that I may
be able to make a difference despite that chance that I could die in a flaming ambulance
wreck caused by a cell phone using moron, get killed on a call by a wacked out nut job
or be crippled for life lugging some 400 pound medical train wreck down stairs, all for
the princely sum of $32K or so a year.

GLAAD's Folly
by Sean Gangol
Unless you have been living under a rock for the past two months,
then you probably know about the Phil Robinson and the GLAAD debacle. GLAAD: Gay,
Lesbian, Alliance Against Defamation took offense, when Phil Robinson from Duck
Dynasty made a few politically incorrect statements about gay people in an issue of
GQ. I don't feel like wasting space repeating what Robertson said, so if you want
to see what he had to say, then I suggest finding a site that has the full quote.
Since GLAAD didn't like what Robinson had to say about gays, they did what they
usually do when somebody utters a phrase that they don't like. They bullied A&E
with the threat of a boycotting their sponsors. This resulted in Phil Robinson
being suspended. Sadly this isn't the first time GLAAD has used these tactics to try
and silence those who say things that may offend this almighty and all powerful organization.
