Attribute to L. Neil Smith's The Libertarian Enterprise

A short one tonight, but it starts out, as I prefer, with Mama Liberty's archives. [Link] This one is on ladies and guns. I LIKE ladies, and I like ladies who shoot. So I like this article. You will, too.

One of the most exciting things for me as a firearms and self defense instructor, is seeing an increasing number of women, especially young people, becoming interested and starting the process toward responsible gun ownership.

Once they have some training, two questions come from most of them. "How do I choose a gun?" is the first. The second, and even more difficult to answer, is, "How in the heck do I carry this thing?"

As with anything else, each person has their own ideas, needs and limitations, so there is no "one size fits all" answer. But there are a good number of us—and ever increasing—who have found answers for ourselves, and it is often helpful for the new folks to consider some of them as they seek their own.

Betcha know what I'm gonna say next, don't ya? Well, what are you waiting for.

I few moments of personal time, this time NOT for politics, but rather for a friend. One of my best friends, whom I have not seen since October, 2004, is in need of support. L. Neil Smith recently suffered a massive stroke. He is recovering well, but well-wishes and good thoughts always help. Having suffered a pretty big stroke of my own at the ripe old age of 43, I know how hard it is to recover. Neil is 68, so it will be harder still. He's one tough son-uv-a-bitch, so I'm sure he'll do well. It will, however, be very tough on Cathy and their daughter. I wish them all the best, and hope it goes smoothly for them.

This one is pathetic—not only do 2nd Amendment opponents want to destroy the 2nd Amendment, they ALSO want to ditch the 1st as well!! [Link] This idiot (the Democrat's replacement for Jesse Jackson Jr., who lost his seat while doing time in the pen,) wants laws to ban cartoon characters in firearm advertisements, and "child friendly colors" on firearms.

There has also been a further development and, no, we are not making this up. On Monday, even though children are already prohibited from buying firearms at retail under federal law and the laws of most states, Kelly introduced H.R. 5093, the Children's Firearm Marketing Safety Act. This legislation would direct the Federal Trade Commission to prohibit the use of cartoon characters to market guns to children, to prohibit the manufacturing of guns in colors designed to appeal to children, and other such nonsense. As UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh points out, the cartoon character ban would be unconstitutional and the color ban might be as well. Regardless of who's behind the "Kelly Report," it and Kelly's cartoon character bill remind us of how gun control supporters think and what they intend to do, once they have the votes in Congress and the state legislatures. And that reminds us of what we have to do in the voting booth on Election Day.

Another example of how NO ONE can ever use a gun to defend themselves or others. [Link]

SAN ANTONIO—The man fatally shot Saturday at the Grand Hyatt downtown was having "mental issues" and threatened to kill someone, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Witnesses and family members told police that Moises Torres, 34, had been "suffering from some un-diagnosed mental issues recently," according to preliminary information released Monday.

Torres went to the sixth floor of the hotel at 1 p.m. and started breaking lights in the hallway, according to police. He started to bang on a door, and when a witness opened it, Torres said he was "looking for someone to kill," police said.

Last week, while camping, my good friend Tony was kind enough to do the rant for me. He did a great job, and he has my thanks.

Time for another paraphrase or two for the Quote of the Week.

That government which governs best governs least, and that government which governs least leaves us the fuck alone.
—Neale Osborn

I know not what course Y'all might take, but as for me, Leave my liberty alone or DIE, Motherfucker, DIE!
—Various forms by Neal Osborn and A.X. Perez

This rant be done, Lads and Lasses. Next weeks will return full-sized. TTFN
