Serve your church, your country, your community.
your family, not by invading somebody else's
civilization, but by taking care of yourself.
It's as simple as that. It really is.

Behind Every Blade of Grass
by L. Neil Smith
This has been an interesting week—interesting in the sense of the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times." My current desktop wallpaper consists of a photo I found online, sent out by some civil rights organization, announcing that Connecticut gun owners were ignoring the new, Draconian laws intended to disarm them, and that only 4% of the weapons and ammunition affected by the law had been registered. Four percent of the people of Connecicut are cattle.

The Norseman's Diaries: Winter The Conqueror & The Doomsday Sentence
by Jeff Fullerton
So much for the idea of getting off easy—like I thought might be the case after it warmed up a little near the end of January. Norseman's Hell! Yeah it's coming back Again! Today was the last perfect day for a while and I got a little more done. After feeding the fire a little I went up to the greenhouse and took care of the Aspidistra plants that I've been shifting from the house up to there. They were getting neglected over the winter and some of the ones like the pentantiloba & pentantiloba "Stretch Marks" got dried out and might not make it—despite their moniker that denotes toughness : Cast Iron Plant! But it's worth a try and in the greenhouse they will get watered more and the humidity will encourage them to put out new leaves if they still have some life left in their rootstocks. I repotted them and added fresh compost and pine bark fines to the mix and watered them good and set them under the shelf of the CBT enclosure.

Good News and Bad News from Colt
by L. Neil Smith
Certain inventions are perfect to begin with, and remain useful for decades—or even centuries. Examples include the gladius, the humble instrument with which the Romans conquered the world, knitting needles, Edison's lightbulb, the restoration of which will be one of my major criteria for voting, the Zippo lighter, and the 1911A1 .45 pistol. I include forks, spoons, and table knives in all their varieties.

An Open Letter to Politicians in Nebraska and Oklahoma
by L. Neil Smith
I've been hearing and seeing reports that politicians in your states, those of Oklahoma and Nebraska, are very angry because a majority of voters in Colorado have decided to ignore the imperious edicts of the federal government and of the vile, corrupt United Nations, and make it legal to grow, process, sell, possess, and consume marijuana. I call to your attention the fact that there is absolutely nothing in the U.S. Constitution giving the government the lawful power to make or enforce such a prohibition, and that, in this matter, at the very least, it is they themselves who are the lawbreakers.

A Note from the Publisher:

Concerning Victim Disarmament

Mr. Littwin:

Your column today amounted to a whole lot of whistling through the graveyard. It was almost fun to read. You didn't mention, when you brayed about the hearing rooms not being full, the terrible weather. But then I'd guess you're a global warmer, too. Boo hoo.

Every man, woman, and responsible child has an unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon—rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything—any time, any place, without asking anyone's permission.

I suggest you read the Second Amendment carefully, as well as the Founders' correspondence about it. There is nothing in any of it to contadict what I declared above, in a speech I gave three decades ago.

How does it feel, now that you're the segregationist governor standing in the shoolhouse door? How does it feel to be the fat sheriff with mirrored sunglasses turning fire hoses and ferocious dogs on people who simply want their rights? How does it feel to be a Klansman cheering them on? I lived through those days, anbd all I hear from you is the same whining and excuses.

Like that governor and sheriff, and Klansman, your future is all behind you.

The times they are a'changing.

Indeed the times are a-changing. Have changed, and are goona change some more. "Onward through the fog!" as they used to say at Oat Willie's. Still say.

All I can say about Globular Warming is that is sure is nice not to be so daggone cold. Although it looks like some parts of the country aren't all that warm. Where I live it's been "Unseasonably Warm". Woo hoo!
