The Citizens' Oversight Committee
by L. Neil Smith
In the 1960s, when, by contrast to the problems of today, we had hardly any trouble with the police, those who weren't so satisfied used to grumble and blather all the time about organizing "civilian review boards", and even got it done here and there, in one city or another. Their basic troubles were, they kept trying for some kind of establishment credentials for these boards, and believed they needed some kind of judicial clout. That was before the end of the Age of Authority.

A Use for the Constitution
by Paul Bonneau
I have, in the past, been a critic of the US Constitution, for largely the same reasons that Spooner disdained it. But because it doesn't work (from the peons' point of view anyway), does it follow that it is useless?

The Secularists Miss the Point... Again
by Sean Gangol
I have written in the past about the many atheists who seem to have an incredibly limited understanding of freedom. Well that seems to be the case once again, with a series of recent incidents that revolve around the idea of religious freedom. The problem seems to stem from the hatred that secularists have of religion, which is so intense that they actually want it eliminated from humanity once and for all. Unfortunately for them that is not going to happen any time soon, so they take their cheap shots whenever they can get them. One of these cheap shots would be to force religious institutions or individuals to violate their principles.

It Never Ends
by Jeff Fullerton
While many of us are busy living and working, the government busybodies and their fellow travelers in the green movement have also been busy hatching more schemes to infringe on your freedom and as usual—to paraphrase the Younger Pitt: Necessity is the Plea!

Sticky Fingers
by L. Neil Smith
If you're a Paleo-Indian, and have just fashioned a stout spear for hunting mammoth and defending your lovely and desirable mate (she smells good) from other Paleo-Indians, carefully chipping a razor-sharp head with a beautiful flute and binding it with rawhide strips, fortified with blood and snot and semen, and another Paleo-Indian takes it, that is theft. If he asserts himself as a leader, and claims this fine spear will help him defend the tribe easier, that's socialism.

EDITORIAL MATTERS

I see our so-called "representatives" have been getting into the "secret laws" thing again (it worked so well with Obama-care after all). We can find out what the law sez after it gets passed. Really! (Just who do these Bozos actually represent, anyway? Oh yeah, the people who have bought and paid-for them. I forgot.)

Now, if I was on a jury (got summoned for one just this week, but it conflicts with various medical appointments), but if I was deciding "guilty/not-guilty" about somebody who has broken a SECRET law, I'd vote NOT-GUILTY.

On the other hand, somebody said recently that there are so many Federal laws these days that everybody could be tried for breaking one. Everybody. This means you"

"There is no one in the United States over the age of 18 who cannot be indicted for some federal crime," said John Baker, a retired Louisiana State University law professor who has also tried counting the number of new federal crimes created in recent years. "That is not an exaggeration."

I think it is way past time to do something about this nonsense. This means you, too.

And look at this, Allen B. West has an article on his website written by Ashley Edwardson about how those rioters (I mean protestors) in Ferguson, MO were promised $5,000 per month for their "work" in the protests (I mean riots). And it turns out that billionaire George Soros seems to be behind the scene of the groups offering the money.

I watched the first trailer for The Martian movie, coming out soon. Looks like it will be a good retelling of the book. While waiting, why not read the book? Let me tell you, it is excellent: Buy at Amazon.com

And, from the world of science fiction the latest on the Hugo awards. This was said by Irene Gallo, Creative Director at TOR books:

"They are two extreme right-wing to neo-nazi groups, called the Sad Puppies and Rabid Puppies respectively, that are calling for the end of social justice [sic] in science fiction and fantasy. They are unrepentantly racist, misogynist, and homophobic. A noisy few but they've been able to gather some Gamergate folks around them and elect a slate of bad-to-reprehensible works on this year's Hugo ballot." [Source: many places on the 'net. Try here

Got that, science fiction and fantasy fans? If you dislike the types of non-story message-fiction that has been winning the Hugo for the last few years, you are therefore racist, misogynist, and homophobic, and like bad-to-reprehensible works. (Never mind that 4 of the nominated authors on the Puppy Slates are published by Tor!) Later she issued an apology to anyone whose feelings were hurt (not an apology for calling people who disagree with her those hateful hurtful things).

I don't know about y'all, but I do believe I have bought my last TOR book. Unless something is done about this outrage.
