Dear Ken and Neil, Thank you again for all the things you guys do to make sure that The Libertarian Enterprise is published every week. I have learned that it is an exceedingly reliable publication in the most important way there is: TLE never compromises on principle. After all, as has been noted elsewhere, a compromise between food and poison isn't very appetising. The fundamental purpose of principle is to guide action. I believe that people can be well guided by the definition of a libertarian offered in TLE. In his essay this week, ["The Year Ahead"] El Neil suggests that we each write to the people we know and inform them about what's been said, this week, at TLE. It is interesting that I had just yesterday gotten to the "Ken Holder" name in my inbox when I took a break from writing more e-mails, as I have been doing in the weeks since you guys published my essay on ["The Power to Issue Money"] and sending the link to it to everyone I have received e-mails from since about 2006. Indeed, judging by the [letter to the editor from Kent McManigal], my e-mail to him today is superfluous, since he quite likely saw the "taxation is theft" paragraph in my essay. But, I'm determined to let everyone I know be aware of the essay on issuing money because: you never know. It is like the old saw about there being only two rules for raising money for a charity. Rule one: Never ask anyone for money unless they have money to give. Rule two: Since you don't know who has money, ask everyone. Neil, I'm very proud that you guys have published some of my essays in nearly every year since 1995. I'm really glad that people can, if they choose, buy a book collecting a great many of these essays, and many of my letters to you, excellent Editor, from Lulu. Curiously, Amazon, which used to list the same book, seems befuddled about how to order more, from Lulu. Weird. Anyway, I really like TLE, I have liked it since 1995, and I do my best to tell everyone I know all about it. Regards, Jim Davidson

Thanks Ray, and Mr. Gangol notes: Last week TLE published a review that I did on a Nook Book which I referred to as Why I Left the Left and Became a Libertarian For some reason I made a mistake with the title. The book is actually titled Why We Left the Left: Personal Stories by Leftist/Liberals Who Evolved to Embrace Libertarianism. The book is compiled and edited by Tom Garrison. It is also available in paperback for those who prefer old fashion books. Just thought that I would clear that up. Sean Gangol

Yet another school shooting. When will these idiots learn? I just had to pause my TV news viewing when I saw that a gunman had killed a bunch of people in a college in Oregon. President Obama Sensible gun laws??? Sorry but I have to call BULLSHIT! Since when is disarming people so they cannot defend themselves been defined as sensible? How is going into a so-called "Gun Free Zone" sensible? Every time a school shooting happens it shows that there is no such thing as a Gun Free Zone. They should properly be labeled as No Defense Zones. Likewise when has any murderer been deterred by defenseless sheep guarded by the sheepdogs who would rather hide than protect the flock? I have a formula for stopping these shootings: 1. Repeal ALL Gun Free Zones everywhere. If somebody refuses to allow guests or patrons from carrying openly or concealed weapons, refuse to go there or buy anything from them. 2. In public schools, require that teachers receive firearms safety training as well as combat training and then they must carry a sidearm or rifle openly at all times in school. 3. In colleges where students have received certification in firearms safety (or maybe even not in the true Libertarian sense) to carry openly or concealed if they desire. 4. Post signs at these schools that "This is a Well Defended Zone - Teachers and Students are armed and trained to shoot to kill." I guarantee that mass school shootings will stop. Oh yes there may be the occasional idiot who wishes to commit suicide by teacher but these will most likely slow to a trickle. In Israel, where terrorists are plentiful, teachers are required to be armed during school hours. When was the last time you heard of a school massacre in Israel? Edwin E. Smith

The 16 black Americans shot and murdered in ghettos that same day, and the day before, tragically got no news coverage. This is stunning, unmentioned—and those lives matter. That black-lives gunfire atrocity is repeated, daily. And will remain true tomorrow when another 16 are murdered, but get no "coverage" -- 6,000 per year. The "Graph of Death" Mr. Obama asked for is already available here (with gut-wrenching explanation) By focusing on an isolated "newsworthy" tragedy in one place, Mr. Obama unknowingly obscures the real issue, and does indeed politicize it—as he forthrightly admitted. NOTE: Every action of this Oregon murderer is already 100% illegal—legal scholars know the call for new laws is superfluous and disingenuous. It is a political agenda that weakens support and the true effort to solve the problem. The President made a repeated and critical mistake: New laws affecting all Americans will not affect the lone psychotics who commit these atrocities— The medical community stands as the greatest obstacle in getting to the psychotics. And the biggest ignored issue of all is: The existing background checks have stopped two million people from buying guns because they are known criminals or mentally unfit—and they are simply turned loose on the streets. We have their names and addresses—and our government just sets them free, right after they try to buy guns. Mr. President, do something about that if you're really serious. Don't try to pass something else, that you know and admit Congress and the public will resist. Act now. If you want more common-sense solutions, call me. Alan Korwin
