EDITORIAL MATTERS A Message From the Publisher ... Where's My Damn MacArthur Prize? Recently I've heard a couple of non-libertarian commentators imply the Libertarian Party Presidential nomination is sewed up for former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who also ran for President in 2012. I have always thought it extremely bad policy to run the same loser twice. You are free to write this off to the vanity of an old man (which is what, to my surprise, I am), but I can't help thinking, if there were anything to Johnson, I'd have heard from the man personally by now. At the age of 70, I am likely the senior writer of the movement. Over three decades, I have written thirty-odd libertarian books of various kinds, and am presently at work on several more. In October, I will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Libertarian Futurists to go along with my four Prometheus Awards. A friend put my policy manual Down With Power in Johnson's hand and I have never had so much as a word of thanks. In my view "discourtesy" hardly expresses it. I do have issue differences with the former Governor. It is not the place of any libertarian candidate to present a "libertarian tax program". Taxation is evil. Taxation is theft. Taxation is slavery. Taxation is the fuel of war. A "libertarian tax program" is like a "libertarian" plan to exterminate the Jews. The centerpiece of former Governor Johnson's platform is a "libertarian tax program". But my real point is his discourtesy, and lack of awareness of the history of the movement and party, most of which I lived through and participated in. So who do I plan to vote for? That's a topic for another day. But just now, due to other developments, NOTA is looking better and better. Your mileage may vary. L. Neil Smith
Back to the Editor now. Mr. Marc V. Ridenour sent a recommendation for reading "Rule of law takes hit in court's order to commit perjury" from the World Net Daily. I gotta say "Golly!":
