When I was a young psychology student, I learned about an incident during the Great Depression in which some number of Navajos, who led a relatively primitive existence in Arizona at the time, were experimentally taken on a sightseeing visit to Chicago. Imagine silver concho belts, jeans, beads, and velveteen shirts on Wacker Drive.

Government-paid researchers from some university or institution or another interviewed them all afterward to determine what their impression of the City of the Big Shoulders might be. To the sociologists' utter surprise, not one of the Navajos even mentioned having noticed Chicago's most noticeable feature, the famous Elevated Railway—the celebrated, extremely noisy, and, one would think, unforgettable Chicago El.

This was the very beginning of what's called "cognitive dissonance theory", a psychobabbular pseudo-science concerned with attempting to maintain two contradictory ideas in your head at the same time. The conclusion was that, because there was nothing like the Chicago El in the Navajos' experience, they had no place for it in their minds, so they simply didn't see or hear it. How the existing railroads in Arizona might have muddied this theory up more than a little, my educators failed to vouchsafe to me.

Nevertheless there is at least something to this theory, and you see it happening every day. Most recently it has figured in the national political argument about what sort of, if any, legislative response there ought to be to the horrible mass-shootings in Orlando, Florida. Some perfect idiot has decided that the answer is a law which ordains that, if an individual's name appears on the DHS/TSA's secret Orwellian "no-fly" list, meaning that he or she is under investigation as a potential terrorist, and "therefore" forbidden to fly on a commercial airplane, he or she should also be forbidden to buy a firearm.This makes approximately as much sense as responding to the Saudi Arabian inspired and financed assault on the World Trade buildings by attacking Iraq and Afghanistan.

In this case, the "Chicago El" of the situation, what some individuals would call "the elephant in the parlor", is this: forget about whether or not to add a useless "no-buy" gun provision to the original decree, why the bloody fracking hell is there a "no-fly" list to begin with? Tell me, what, precisely, is the Constitutional justification for it? The inalienable individual rights to travel freely and to contract freely for commercial transportation is a Ninth Amendment matter—and please don't tell me what a cab driver told me the other day, that jet airliners had not been invented when James Madison wrote the Bill of Rights, not if you want to hold onto your semiauto rifle, and your computer, which had also not been invented. All these items are protected, on general philosophical principles—weapons, communications, and travel—by the Second and Ninth Amendments.

However, instead of getting all outraged because the anti-gun feeble-mindeds are trying to jam through yet another lame-ass Jim Crow victim disarmament edict. We should be directing our rakes and torches and pitchforks toward the supreme jackasses who decided to pick and choose those privileged to fly on airliners, instead of enforcing their individual right to own and carry weapons, which makes hijackings impossible and would have prevented 9/11, provided we can believe a corrupt government's explanations about it. Anything, absolutely anything, in their demented view, no matter how many tragedies it causes, no matter how many lives it costs, to keep the peasants from arming themselves.

You can clearly hear the shivering fear of such a social development in the voices of northeastern "Progressive" television commentators, and see it on their pasty faces.

Except, of course, that the peasants are arming themselves, in geometrically increasing numbers. The safety and effectiveness of personal weaponry is improving every day. Guns keep getting smaller, lighter, and more powerful. Some folks are still trying to remain sweet and orderly about it all, legally purchasing their firearms and nicely applying for concealed carry permits. But those statistics alone frighten the living excrement out of our self-appointed socialist sheep-herders, Other people, having finally observed that the only reason vile creatures like Obama and Hillary want to take your guns away is so that they can be free to do things to you that they couldn't do if you kept your guns, have simply decided for themselves that they have obeyed their last gun law.

Take heed, you would-be gun-grabbers, you did this all to yourselves. Whatever happens to history now is on you and you alone. Americans have obeyed their last gun law. I have been writing about these matters for years—for decades—and I know.

Today, however, changes everything. The day before yesterday, July 4th, was the last day of the long-dying United States of America, a Constitutionally representative republic.Today, July 6th, is the first day of the disgusting United Banana Republic of America. Today, the Rule of Law that once sheltered us all, equally, is out the window—Hillary is guilty of all she's accused of, yet will not be prosecuted—and the era of Evita Peron II is here. I hereby rescind the Pledge of Allegiance that I took thousands of times as a kid. I owe nothing more to the flag that flew on the antenna-masts of the tanks at Waco.

Whether you realize it or not, your obligation to it is over and done with, as well.
