Attribute to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

Any individual, these days, with more than a couple of “little gray cells” to rub together (of course this automatically excludes most Hollywood types and all left wing media and politicians) frequently wonders why Europe in general and Germany in particular seem as Hell-bent on committing cultural suicide as a galloping horde of lemmings dashing for the edge of the abyss, and absolutely determined to take that final, fatal plunge whether the European people in general or the German people in particular want to go with them or not.

I refer, of course. to admitting prodigious numbers of “refugees” from Middle Eastern, predominantly Muslim countries that appear somehow to have missed the Italian Renaissance (if not the discovery of fire), the Protestant Reformation, the Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights, and are still mired in some particularly vicious and violent corner of the Dark Ages, philosophically, politically, ethically, and scientifically.

Only a tiny handful of individuals and countries have managed to puzzle out the truth of this situation, despite the fact that any number of leaders among the “refugees” have spelled it out for them in plain English, French, German, Italian, and other languages of Western Civilization. “Your time is over, infidel. These cities, these neighborhoods, and their streets belong to us, now, to do with as we wish. We will accomplish now what Charles Martel (look him up) prevented thirteen centuries ago. Your culture of individual liberty is an obsolete and naughty illusion. It will now be replaced with rape. pillage, and murder, and whatever else we want.”

How ironic and frustrating it is that just as Westerners have begun to acquire a decently tolerant attitude toward individuals of other races (I don’t give a damn what the left claims otherwise), followers of other religions, choosers of other sexual preferences (never forget that Milo Yiannopoulis is a right wing hero), and women who demand the same rights that men used to have, along comes this wave of 6th Century barbarians to erase every hard-won bit of the painful progress our society turned itself inside-out to achieve. Frankly, I blame George W. Bush and a long, long line of his vile predecessors, stretching back to the 19th century. If it weren’t for the wars he and his have stirred up over the years to preserve a series of self-serving lies, the barbarians might well have stayed at home and slaughtered one another, instead of Frenchmen, Americans, Germans, Italians, and Brits.

Right now I can hear nearly dozens of readers out there screaming at me that “Islam is a religion of peace!” and that the vast majority of Muslims are quiet, warm, kindly people. I’ve read the Q’ran from cover to cover in two different translations, so I know that first bit is a lie. Islam is a religion (not unlike others) of redefining ordinary human behavior as a sin and exacting brutal restitution for it. I’m prepared to accept the second, based on my own personal experience, but I do have a question. Why do these quiet, warm, kindly folks tolerate the others, the noisy, violent, and evil among their own number whose beliefs and actions are likely to get all of them discriminated against (because our side has very few telepaths), deported, or killed? Because they’re cowardly skulkers, that’s why, afraid of these fundamentalist punks and unwilling to step forward against them. That’s exactly how we ended up with corrupt policemen nationwide, and the Siclian Mafia.

But, as usual, I digress. Why, I pretend to hear you asking, don’t nations like Germany and France (never to forget Sweden), that almost certainly contain analysts capable of figuring these things out, why don’t they do something about it, instead of just holding one funeral after another for the victims of terrorism? The answer, if you’re a libertarian anarchist, is depressing, but it will confirm your most negative beliefs about government.

The German economy (like that of Europe in general) is flat. This is due to European and German attitudes about making money (which could be defined as “pastel Marxism”), their tax structure (generally confiscatory), and massive, complicated regulations that impede progress for all but those specially approved by government. At the peak of this mountainous mess is the “Value-Added Tax” or V.A.T., the very latest form of government thievery, that taxes every level of production and distribution an item goes through before it gets from producer to consumer.

One of the most attractive things about the V.A.T. is that, unlike the American income tax, it’s difficult or impossible to evade because it’s collected like a sales tax. It’s also monstrously regressive and destroys a vastly greater proportion of lower-class wealth than upper class.

The German birth rate (like that of Europe in general) is also flat, a direct result of things like the V.A.T., which make it much too expensive for young couples to have second or third babies. Thus, the “native” population of Europe is declining. Population activists may think this is a good thing, but tax collectors and those who spend the money they collect, assuredly do not. They’re in a blind, stupid funk, which brings us to Angela Merkel and her self-serving lot.

This is why they’re all promoting immigration, you see. It wouldn’t matter to them if the immigrants were Martians or Moon-men, as long as they broadened the tax-base once again. It doesn’t matter that a certain fraction of them are savages who have been instructed by their shamans to kill anybody who disagrees with then, or rape anything they run across with a pulse. The original citizens of Western Europe are expendable. What counts is all these new payers of a tax that’s difficult or impossible to avoid paying. Immigrants mean cold, hard cash to European governments, just as they mean votes in North America to the Democratic Party.

As for Merkel, She is, at bottom (if you’ll pardon the pun) a lard-assed bureaucrat, a parasite on the lookout for fresher blood to suck.

Geographically, Germany is her turf, no matter who happens to be living on it, what sort of clothes they wear, what lingo they fling, what history or traditions they possess, or other histories and traditions they’re destroying. When everybody in the Vaterland speaks Arabic or Farsi or Urdu as a first language, it won’t matter to Merkel or any other Western politician. They’ll still be paying for her limousines and helicopters.

And, as Walter Cronkite used to put it, that’s the way it is.
