REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
(The Feature Article)
Common?
The Editor’s Notes
by Ken Holder, Editor
Here in the “cool” mountains of Arizona, where people
from the hot parts of the state like to come in the summer to avoid
them triple-digit temps down in the low-lands, yep, here in that
place, we had highs of 108 degrees at my front yard’s weather
station. Maybe the thing is mis-calibrated or something, but I will
tell you, it FELT like 108 all right. And we have no air
conditioning or even a “swamp cooler”. Box fans is all.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
by L. Neil Smith
Recently, out of the blue. I received a Facebook communication
from an old friend of perhaps 30 years who has apparently become
another Precious Snowflake. It was nothing but one long, hysterical
rant, as you will see. I decided to answer the man point-for-point,
not because I thought it will do him any good. I think he’s too
far gone in his snowflakitude. But I do think it may help the rest of
us to make the important arguments over the next few months. I
withhold his name so the poor guy won’t appear to be any more
of a fool than he already is. Let’s just call him
“Will”.

Counter Terrorism
by J. Neil Schulman
I’m only surprised it took this long.
In a 1999 article I wrote:
“A few weeks ago in Israel, a terrorist drove his car into a crowd of civilians, intent on
mass murder.” The Islamic-jihadi tactic of mowing down innocent civilians with a
motor vehicle isn’t new. It didn’t start after 9/11. It
didn’t start in Nice, France. It didn’t start on London Bridge.

The Ballad of Mr. J.
by A.X. Perez
The truth is a five inch diameter shuriken just isn’t heavy
enough to do a lot of damage. Even five or six are no more than a
distraction. Someone might get unlucky and take a hit in the carotid
or jugular. Maybe an eye put out. None of these outcomes are probable.
Still, it might make you flinch.

Ishigame: Cultural Appropriation and the Proprietary Ownership of Species
by Jeff Fullerton
Cultural appropriation seems to be one of the latest bugaboos of
the Left these days where it has suddenly become offensive for white
girls to wear hoop earrings and other things you would never have imagined just a few years ago.

The State of the Nation: What is to be Done?
by Sean Gabb
I have been asked to explain our present mess, and how the country
is to be saved. I will begin with the easier, and perhaps the more
cheerful, part of this question.

January 19th, 2017: A Short Story
by Giovanni Martelli
It was cold in Fort Collins—even for late January—but
there were protesters out, holding picket signs and wearing knitted
pink hats as they shouted into megaphones; unfortunately, they were
in the way, and Ray Ahmadi frowned as he passed them, his dark brow knitting in consternation.
