Attribute to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

The all-too-public reaction on the part of liberal Democrats and their vile collaborators in the “news” media, following the election and inauguration of Donald J. Trump, proves beyond any possible doubt that, for decades, this country has been in the hands of infantile, malignant hysterics whose “advice” is the last thing you’d ever want to follow in any crisis. While giving vandals, rioters, and terrorists a pass, they wail melodramatically (and with an ulterior motive) about incidents like last Sunday’s massacre in Las Vegas.

And yet their actions are exactly analogous to those of the Las Vegas sniper and criminzals like him: they perch high up on Capitol Hill, waiting eagerly for an opportunity to launch one life-destroying item of legislation after another, down onto innocent millions of Productive Class individuals below. Forget Thomas Nast’s donkey. The cartoon logo for the Party of the Left, Sam Francis’ “Evil Party”, should be a vulture.

Given any current problem, be it social, economic, or otherwise, the one and only thing that liberal Democrats can ever think of doing is to take something away—anything: money, property, precious individual rights—from the Productive Class who pay their salaries and have made this nation possible. They destroy it or consume it greedily themselves. For my entire life, seventy years, liberal Democrats have been trying to take things away from me and from people like me. From people like you. Actual criminals, it develops, are much too hard to find and much too hard to catch. Liberal Democrat lawyers have made them almost impossible to prosecute. Why even bother, then, when non-criminal individuals are so much easier to punish en-mass for the evil deeds of a few?

This also brings to mind the demented assertion that our cars cause global warming and that you must be deprived of the transportation, freedom, and privacy that automobiles provide, in order to save a planet that doesn’t require saving, from a threat that is completely fraudulent. While Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio fill the skies with their thick black jet engine exhaust, you and I should pedal our bicycles. Ding ding!

If President Donald J. Trump, who, when he was registered as a Democrat, once championed gun control (more properly termed “victim disarmament”) long ago, gives in to the pressure being put on him now by the Charles Schumers and the Elizabeth Warrens and the Gabby Giffords (her husband used to be an astronaut but now he’s just an ass.) of the disminded left, he can kiss his voter base—the genuinely useful people of America—goodbye. His promises to protect our Second Amendment rights were as important to his unexpected victory as his promise of a border wall, which he also appears to be welshing on.

Time will tell. As for the more collectivist party, to a subculture absolutely obsessed with controlling everyone and everything within sight, just the thought of individuals off the leash, owning and enjoying the physical means of securing their own independence, security, and privacy must be nightmarish. They have tried for decades, insulting the intelligence and sanity of those they burn to micro-manage, but the pathology is all theirs.

And what can be said of a political movement so thoroughly bent on disarming their own population that they seem never to notice each time they mount an anti-gun campaign, ordinary people go out and buy an unprecedented volume of firearms, and their party loses thousands of voters. Where they could once credibly claim to represent and stand for the great middle classes of the American heartland, now all they have left is effete bicoastal Volvo-driving wine-and-cheese-nibblers and a horde of welfare parasites. Each time a party apparatchik calls for “gun control”, his party is committing another act of long, slow suicide.

In this age of street terrorism, those who would take your weapons away are trying to get you killed. They are your enemy, as much as any ISIS militant or North Korean myrmidon. Moreover, collective punishment is for incompetent Kindergarten teachers. Copy this essay, and my cyberpamphlet “Americans Have Obeyed Their Last Gun Law” and spread them as far and wide among your friends—and your enemies—as you can. Liberty won a squeaker in 2016. It can win again now by shutting the hoplophobes and mass disciplinarians up for good.

I didn’t want to do this ever again. I’ve probably written two million words on this subject. Second Amendment rights are the reason that I began write, directly in essays like this one, and braided not-so-subtly into my thirty-odd novels. I’m tired, now, and I want to write something else. Something nice, Something pretty. But it’s enough that the detestors of freedom, the enemies of liberty, understand clearly that I’ll willingly collapse over this keyboard and exhale my last breath on it, writing about the individual right to own and carry weapons if I have to.

What can you do? Two things. Phone or write the White House—which may also be more open to electronic communication these days than it was during previous administrations—and tell the President’s flunkies to tell the Donald not to listen to the sleazoids and jibber-jabbers of the left. Tell them that you didn’t do anything wrong last Sunday and that you won’t tolerate being treated as if you did. That era is now over.
