Attribute to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

If you want to know what's really going on in American and world politics, it is absolutely essential to comprehend the following sequence of events. Nothing else explains the stark insanity this country has been going through for the past couple of years. Nothing else can prepare us for what's likeliest—and ugliest—to happen next. I claim no special expertise or knowledge—especially not the telepathic abilities that the political left so often claims to possess (“No I can't point to anything concrete he ever said or did,” they tell us, “I just know he's a racist!”)—I only claim an above-average understanding of history and human nature.

Vladimir Lenin, I'll remind you, once famously said “The goal of socialism is communism.” Both are political and ethical “philosophies” based on taking stuff away from those who created it or earned it, and giving it to those who didn't—who'll vote for you. Collectivism, which is the generic term for both of these viewpoints and every other politic-economic scam like them, is nothing more than a pathetically transparent, sleazy attempt to make theft appear respectable. It's always easier to take away or destroy than to create or build. Stealing from others became very popular in the first half of the 19th century (“Property is theft.”—Pierre-Joseph Proudhon) when it was formalized as an ideology.

From that beginning,170 years ago, socialists began to imagine a bright, glowing, prosperous Utopian future for themselves, based entirely on theft. With every decade that passed, their physically, logically impossible fantasies became more and more real to them. It's like the old psychiatrist joke that the difference between neurotics and psychotics is that neurotics build castles in the air, whereas psychotics move in and live in them.

The “Progressive” movement began to really blossom in the latter half of the 19th century. They were establishing socialist colonies practically everywhere. American socialist newspaper editor Horace Greeley told his readers, “Go west, young man” and to establish socialist colonies. _Looking Backward_, a badly-written socialist screed by Edward Bellamy and more-talented others like H. G. Wells' _When the Sleeper Wakes_ and _The Time Machine_ became immensely popular. The idea of an inevitable, unstoppable socialist “wave of the future” became popular and lasted at least until I was in college in the 1960s.

The anti-communist Barry Goldwater Presidential campaign of 1964 was the first unexpected obstacle to the socialists' “progress”. With the collusion of mass media every bit as corrupt, malicious, and hostile to individual liberty as they remain today, the Goldwater campaign was steam-rollered down and the unspeakably evil Lyndon Baines Johnson won the election 3-1. The result was the socialist “Great Society” and the deadly war in Vietnam.

When people in general grew tired and disgusted with Johnson's dirty corporate war-mongering, they forced him out of office. Nixon, Ford, and Carter were no improvement, so they elected Ronald Reagan, who promised less government and less control over people's lives. Socialists immediately declared war on Reagan, claiming over and over, a thousand times a week, that he was only an actor, a stupid, senile lawbreaker because he threatened to dismantle everything they'd worked for and dreamed about for more than a century and effectively fought their communist allies overseas.

Thinkers on the other side couldn't understand how the left failed to see that their “philosophy” was resulting in poverty and miserable, substandard living worldwide, killing hundreds of millions of helpless innocent individuals. But there was no mystery here: like the public school system's “failure”, grinding out young idiots, unable to think for themselves, that was exactly the result they wanted.

After Reagan served his two terms and died, the socialists thought they were on a clear path to collectivist Eden, with the elections of a series of lamentable mediocrities like both George Bushes, and outright villains like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. But as usual, the left over-reached, angering millions with various programs and attitudes, conveying their misbegotten belief that the people of the United States—and especially their money—were government property.

As a result, despite their best, most dishonest efforts, their “property” elected Donald J. Trump. The left had believed that nothing stood in the way of their victory. When it turned out not to be true, it was like a bubble bursting, like waking from a warm, comfortable, steamy dream; it was, in fact, a massive psychotic break on a national scale. Like Reagan, Trump was no libertarian, but he threatened to de-socialize America like Reagan, only on a wholesale basis. He derailed their little Red wagon to Utopia, so they dragged out every dirty weapon they'd ever devised to combat individual freedom. Today, after countless attempts, almost every day, to shatter his efforts, they're even threatening his children as if this were 16th century England with dungeons and beheadings.

Any failure Trump has suffered—the Mexican border Wall, so far, for example—can clearly be attributed to his enemies. The Democrat process—it might as well be called the Schumer process—abetted by traitorous Establishment Republicans, is to knock you down, stomp on your legs until they're broken in several places, and then make fun of you because you can't walk.

From my viewpoint, Donald Trump is far from perfect, I voted for the man because he wasn't Hillary Clinton. I have differences with some of his policies, and say so. But we are at war now, a slow-motion, sneaky Civil War. If you deal with socialists. no matter what they call themselves, as anything but your mortal enemies, who want to kill you, and cook you, and eat you (to quote Bruce Willis)—if you fall for the blandishments of their foul, demented, idiot accomplices in the Republican Party—you are inviting extermination of everything you value and hold dear.

Think of Democratic Communist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wearing you wife's or daughter's favorite dress.

There are ways to fight back. Definite steps. The trick isn't to write them all down for you—that's what I do; these days, it's practically all I do—it's to get them through the thick, lead-lined bucket-heads of Republicans and others who claim they want to stay free but aren't willing to do the work.
