“Gun control is the idea that it’s better to see a woman dead in an alley, strangled
with her own pantyhose, than to see her with a gun in her hand.”—T.D. Melrose

This Is Not An Assault
by L. Neil Smith
”It depends upon what the meaning of the word ’is’ is.”—President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton
No more chilling and prophetic words were ever spoken by a public servant than this macabre denial of objective reality by Bill Clinton during the Paula Jones / Monica Lewinsky impeachment inquiries in 1998. But it was much more than just a run-of-the-mill idiotic remark from an unusually sleazy politician, the moron who complained that the Founding Fathers had given us too much freedom, it was a momentary slip that betrayed his entire “philosophy” of governance, and in fact the very foundation on which the modern management state stands.

Acquired Imbecility
by Sarah A. Hoyt
There is a type of idiocy so profound, and so profoundly anti-reality that you need to go to school for several years, at a cost of millions before you actually internalize it and believe it with all your heart. A lot of this kind of crazy stupidity is epitomized by the left in the country and by our former president. People often referred to president Obama as believing all the sorts of things that college freshmen discuss late into the night as though they were great mysteries of the world when they are fairly obvious irrelevancies. They weren’t wrong. And that kind of learned ignorance, of purposeful perplexity, can be incredibly dangerous in a head of state, as we’re finding out with the Iran deal.

Guerrillas by Night
by Giovanni Martelli
Last weekend I went to a sports bar in my hometown for karaoke night. I am a regular attendee of other karaoke nights around town, and always go to entertain others and have a good time; that’s what they're for, after all. I am very serious about music and not a drinker. Water and Red Bull are my drinks of choice.

Heinlein Was an Optimist
by Sarah A. Hoyt
If there’s one thing everyone agrees on, particularly those who’ve never read him, is that Heinlein was an optimist. The cup was damnright brimming full. We’d go to the stars and stay there. Humans would survive everything, even puppet masters. We’re rough, we’re tough, and by G-d we can make it. It’s only when you read him and pay attention, particularly now, thirty years (has it really been that long?) after his death that you realize what a dark canvas he painted his individual streaks of light and individualism on.
