And if you want to get a good scare (bad scare?) read The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History by John M. Barry.

It's about the great “Spanish” Flu global outbreak of 1918-1920, which killed maybe a 100,000,000 people. Our doctor is always wanting us to get various vacinations, whooping caugh (getting to be a problem again), etc. I have been working on the habit of using those sanitizer wipes on shopping cart handles in Walmart and places. Rubber gloves and a face mask, maybe some day. It was called “Spanish” because the first public news about it came from Spain, which did not have the war-inspired press censorship of most of the other European nations. People were dying like flies in all the other countries, of course, but that was a military secret you see.

Another recommendation is Fernand Braudel's The Mediterranean in the Ancient World Fascinating reading. Go for it.

Oh yes, don't forget: DRAIN THE SWAMP!
