If We Had Some Global Warming - 10 Years Later
I think this news is a year old or so but still timely as Minnesota and Wisconsin get buried. And I feel awfully bad when I keep telling Ray how nice it is here in sunny 70 degree western Pennsylvania!
I’m wondering and had to ask if Al Gore wasn’t lecturing to some of his acolytes in the progressivist snake pit of Madison this week. You know that Gore Effect. Hope he doesn’t come to my neck of the woods!

Over the last couple of weeks I have written letters why liberals who want gun control and conservatives who pretend to oppose gun control should agree to rescind the Hughes Amendment, the one that closed the machine gun registry in May of 1986.
The thing is politicians like gun control. Some may be willing to let the people keep sufficient handguns, rifles, and shotguns for self defense and sporting use. Some admit we have a right to weapons, but try to hedge it in a much as possible. However, the idea of an unfettered right to keep and bear arms is not pleasing to them. This is because ultimately the right to keep and bear arms is intended to make sure that the people are armed to overthrow a tyrannical or at least sufficiently corrupt government.
Liberals are afraid of being branded tyrants for imposing extreme change they believe is needed for the well being of the people. Conservatives are afraid of being branded tyrants by blocking what appears to be extreme change a large number of people want. Was state imposed segregation or state imposed desegregation the greater tyranny? Which was bad enough to justify armed resistance? Both segregationists and desegregationists had reason to support gun control against at least some part of the population.
And that’s just one issue.
Unless and until people get it through their heads that the use of the state’s power should be minimized instead of the default solution to all problems, those who wield power are going to fear armed resistance. One man’s freedom fighter is another’s terrorist and so on. And that means they are going to be inclined to disarm the common folk.
Remember to both liberal and conservative “leaders” we are “a motley rabble of saucy boys, negros and molattoes, and outlandish Jack Tarrs”, in the words of John Adams, “the Mexicans, Negros, and lower sort of white criminals” that the El Paso city council was trying to get to sober up when they banned marijuana.
Do you think we can expect them to respect our right to keep and bear arms without constant electoral pressure?
