Unemployment and other issues

According to article cited there are more jobs in the US than there are workers looking for work. There is a need for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) workers, blue collar, and low skill workers (for example, plumber doing work at my house informed me there is a shortage of ’prentices coming in to the trade), many jobs filled by immigrants, many filled specifically by illegal immigrants. Changing law to increase number of green cards would end the practice of short paying illegal workers who can’t complain because that would get them fired and deported and raise pay to where American citizens are attracted to the jobs.

At the same time our Democratic friends are talking about helping the unemployed and underemployed by means of government largesse. This makes sense if you realize that it appears much of the Democratic Party’s base is in the parts of the country where the jobs aren’t. This also explains why Democrats are reluctant to make true immigration reform, they don’t want legal aliens with jobs and not trapped in hiding or on welfare.

Recently the Democrats made a fuss about raising the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour by 2025. Get honest immigration reform and Americans signing up for skilled labor apprenticeships and $25.00 will be less than the equilibrium price for labor.

Therefor be assured that no meaningful immigration or education reform is coming out of Washington anytime soon.

As I was about to publish, I received noticed that J. Neil had died: http://www.stephankinsella.com/2019/08/j-neil-schulman-r-i-p/

Heath Crisis: J. Neil Schulman

My apologies if you receive more than one e-mail about this—I’m sending it to everyone in my Libertarian & Allies e-mail list and there may be some duplicate/multiple/obsolete/long-unused addresses. You know I’ve not done this in a long time, if ever.

As some of you may know, J. Neil Schulman was evicted from his home in June. As I inferred from one cryptic post on his page, I think he moved to Colorado. I don’t know if he is still there, but today, David K. M. Klaus posted on his own Facebook page the following:

“If you pray, spell, meditate, or just think good thoughts, please direct them for J Neil Schulman, who is in critical condition, unconscious, with a 5% chance of survival.

He is my brother in spirit, simply my brother, and we love each other.

Thank you.” [emphasis added]

I re-posted it on my FB page and IM’d David for more information. He hasn’t responded, which I expect means that he is either with Neil or making phone calls to others. I don’t know what happened yet. I don’t know if it is some sort of diabetic episode or an accident or something else. I don’t know what hospital he’s in. I have no details, but if you are on Facebook, you can find David, since he might be the first to provide updated information.

However, if you have any information about Neil’s condition/whereabouts, please post it to my Facebook page or reply and let me know and I will re-mail it (with your permission). Meanwhile, do what you would do when a faraway friend is in crisis.

Thank you,

Victor Koman
